AllUnity launches USD stablecoin USDAU under EU’s MiCA framework

AllUnity has launched USDAU, a new stablecoin designed to track the US dollar, as the European digital-asset issuer expands its regulated product range and enters a market still overwhelmingly dominated by dollar-linked tokens.

A fourth fiat-backed token

USDAU is intended to maintain a one-to-one value with the US dollar. AllUnity said the peg will be supported by segregated reserves, meaning the assets backing the token are held separately from other company funds.

The stablecoin is launching across six blockchain networks: Ethereum, Solana, Base, Tempo, Arc and Polygon. The company described USDAU as its fourth fiat-backed stablecoin.

AllUnity already issues EURAU, which is backed by the euro, CHFAU, backed by the Swiss franc, and SEKAU, backed by the Swedish krona. The company operates under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets, or MiCA, regulatory framework.

According to Cointelegraph, CoinGecko values the market capitalization of EURAU at approximately $400,000 and CHFAU at around $45 million. The source material did not provide a market-capitalization figure for SEKAU or USDAU.

Dollar dominance raises concerns in Europe

The launch comes during a debate among European policymakers over the role of dollar-denominated stablecoins in the region’s financial system. Stablecoins are digital tokens designed to maintain a relatively stable value, typically by being linked to a fiat currency such as the dollar or euro.

Dollar-pegged stablecoins account for more than 99% of the approximately $291 billion global stablecoin market by capitalization, according to CoinGecko. That concentration has prompted concern in Europe about the implications for the euro and for oversight of digital money used in tokenized finance.

The European Central Bank warned in June that wider use of dollar stablecoins in European tokenized finance could increase dependence on the US dollar and reduce the euro’s role.

AllUnity’s argument for USDAU

AllUnity CEO Alexander Höptner said the company’s position is that the central issue is not the dollar itself, but how dollar liquidity reaches European users. He told Cointelegraph that Europe is concerned about dollar liquidity moving through offshore issuers without a European supervisor, enforceable redemption rights or clear visibility into reserves.

Höptner said USDAU is intended to place dollar liquidity within Europe’s regulatory perimeter while offering European companies access to dollars for international trade and cross-border payments. The launch therefore combines a response to market demand for dollar-linked digital assets with AllUnity’s emphasis on its MiCA-regulated structure.
