Banks now account for 23% of the crypto-asset service providers listed on the European Securities and Markets Authority’s (ESMA) register under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework, according to Cointelegraph. Their share has approximately doubled since late June, bringing banks to nearly one in every four providers on the register. The change highlights a growing presence for traditional banking institutions among entities recorded under the EU’s crypto regulatory framework. The figures describe the composition of ESMA’s MiCA register and do not indicate changes in any individual crypto asset’s price or market performance. Market participants tracking EU crypto infrastructure may view the register’s provider mix as an indicator of how banking institutions are participating in the regulated digital-asset sector.
