Binance will begin updating the collateral value of selected bStocks around the clock from October 24, including when US stock markets are closed. The change could reduce the margin cushion available to some leveraged accounts if tokenized stock values decline during weekends, holidays or other periods without external market data.
Continuous valuation will extend beyond US market hours
According to CryptoSlate, Binance’s October 20 notice says the revised bStocks collateral index will update from 00:00 UTC on October 24. The index is used to value eligible bStocks before Binance applies collateral ratios that determine how much of that value can support trading positions.
bStocks are certificates that provide exposure to the price of US-listed shares. They do not represent direct ownership of the underlying stocks and do not provide shareholder rights. The products can qualify as collateral in Cross Margin, Portfolio Margin and Portfolio Margin Pro accounts, subject to eligibility and jurisdictional requirements.
Under the new approach, the index may continue moving during weekends, public holidays and daily maintenance windows. When external market information is unavailable, Binance will refer to prices from its own trading platform rather than leaving the collateral valuation unchanged until the US equity market reopens.
Smoothing and limits will govern off-hours prices
Binance says the off-hours calculation will use an order-book Impact Mid Price combined with an exponentially weighted moving average, or EWMA. This method smooths the price used for collateral instead of allowing every immediate order-book fluctuation to pass through directly.
A separate movement cap will also apply while the off-hours methodology is active. However, the notice and linked methodology do not state the cap’s numerical value, and Binance reserves the right to change it. When the index returns to its normal mode, the exchange plans to blend the previous and new calculations gradually to reduce the risk of a sudden jump in the displayed collateral value.
The change matters because collateral values affect the amount of protection supporting leveraged positions. If the value of a bStock falls while the rest of an account remains unchanged, the account may have less room before reaching a risk threshold.
Margin ratios can change while markets are closed
Binance specifically warns that an account’s Margin Level or Unified Maintenance Margin Ratio, known as uniMMR, may move during non-trading hours. A lower bStocks valuation can weaken either measure. Collateral ratios vary by token and may change over time.
Users in VIP 0–2 tiers must complete a suitability questionnaire to access relevant products. Binance also says that customers holding bStocks in Cross Margin or Portfolio Margin may face additional trading restrictions when specified risk conditions apply. Those restrictions are distinct from liquidation and do not, by themselves, forcibly close existing positions.
Forced liquidation remains possible if an account breaches its applicable liquidation threshold. The outcome therefore depends on each account’s collateral, exposures and relevant margin requirements rather than on the repricing announcement alone.
