US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds suffered $635 million in net withdrawals on Thursday, ending a three-day run of inflows and pushing the group’s October balance back into negative territory.
The outflow was more than enough to erase the $528 million that entered the funds on Wednesday. According to Cointelegraph, data from SoSoValue showed that cumulative net outflows for October reached $175 million after Thursday’s trading session.
Largest daily withdrawal since June
Thursday’s exit was the biggest single-day net outflow from US spot Bitcoin ETFs since June 25, when the products recorded $696 million in withdrawals. It also broke a three-day inflow streak during which the funds attracted a combined $1.08 billion.
Despite the sharp daily reversal, the weekly picture remained positive. Bitcoin ETFs recorded $443 million in net inflows for the week. That followed two consecutive weeks in which the funds had experienced net outflows, making the latest weekly gain a partial recovery rather than a continuation of uninterrupted buying.
Spot Bitcoin ETFs hold Bitcoin directly and issue exchange-traded shares that give investors market exposure through a regulated fund structure. Daily net flows are closely watched because they indicate whether investors are adding to or withdrawing capital from these products, although they do not by themselves explain the reasons for each transaction.
Bitcoin retreats from Wednesday’s high
Bitcoin traded between $80,996 and $82,551 on Thursday, below its intraday high of $84,777 recorded on Wednesday. At the time of the original report, BTC was around $81,783, down approximately 1% over the previous 24 hours, according to CoinGecko.
The ETF outflows therefore came as Bitcoin was trading below the previous day’s peak. The movement in the funds and the cryptocurrency price provides a snapshot of a weaker session, while the still-positive weekly flow shows that the broader short-term picture had not fully reversed.
Altcoin ETFs mostly see withdrawals
Other cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds also reported predominantly negative flows on Thursday:
- Ether ETFs recorded approximately $111 million in net outflows.
- Solana ETFs saw roughly $9 million leave the products.
- Hyperliquid ETFs registered about $8 million in net outflows.
- XRP ETFs attracted around $3.6 million in inflows, bucking the wider trend.
The figures show that the selling pressure was not limited to Bitcoin products. However, XRP was an exception, with investors adding money to its ETFs even as the Ether, Solana and Hyperliquid products reported withdrawals.
