Bitcoin may be approaching a more supportive supply-demand setup as the amount held on cryptocurrency exchanges continues to decline, according to a CryptoQuant researcher cited by Bitcoin Magazine.
The balance of bitcoin on exchanges has fallen to 2.67 million from 2.8 million in February, a reduction that could limit the amount of bitcoin immediately available for trading. CryptoQuant on-chain researcher Rei Researcher said the trend could become favorable for bitcoin if buying demand continues to strengthen.
Falling Exchange Reserves Draw Attention
The report highlighted that bitcoin has recently recovered from its lows while exchange reserves have continued to decrease. That combination is significant because exchange-held coins are generally more readily available to be bought and sold than bitcoin transferred to other forms of storage.
The researcher said a continuing improvement in demand, alongside low exchange supply, could create a supply-demand imbalance and support a longer-term upward trend. The report also suggested that some investors may be moving their bitcoin away from exchanges and into cold-storage solutions.
A decline in exchange balances does not guarantee that prices will rise. However, it is being watched as an indicator of how much bitcoin may be available for immediate market activity while interest from buyers develops.
Bitcoin’s Recovery From a Difficult Start
Bitcoin spent most of the first half of 2026 below $65,000, remaining in a bear market after reaching an all-time high of $126,080 in October 2025. The market environment changed in August, when bitcoin began a stronger advance that continued into September. The move prompted several analysts to say the bear market had ended.
The source report linked the renewed strength partly to news that the U.S. Treasury would double the size of its liquidity-support buyback operations. That development weakened the dollar while supporting bitcoin and other assets that do not generate yield, according to the report.
Bitcoin is also benefiting from what analysts call the “debasement trade.” In this strategy, investors allocate money to assets they view as a hedge against a loss in the value of a currency. The report said bitcoin benefited from this theme in 2024 and 2025 as well.
Despite its recovery, bitcoin remains more than 30% below its record high. Its recent gains therefore represent a rebound from lower levels rather than a return to the peak reached last year.
Current Market Picture
Moneyiar market data at 20:49 on October 13, 2026, showed Bitcoin at $83,314.89, up 0.36% over 24 hours but down 2.70% over seven days. The source report had earlier cited a price of $83,485, unchanged over 24 hours and 8% higher over 30 days.
The differing figures reflect the separate times and data points used. Together, they show bitcoin trading near $83,000 while the market focuses on whether declining exchange reserves can coincide with sustained buying demand. The supply trend may be constructive, but the report presents it as a potential condition for further strength rather than a certainty.
