Bitcoin Holds Near $86,000 as US Stocks Reach Fresh Records

Bitcoin hovered near $86,000 as heavy sell orders around $87,000 limited its advance, while the S&P 500, Nasdaq 100 and Nasdaq Composite reached record highs. Moneyiar data later showed BTC at $83,872.25, down 2.55% over 24 hours.

Bitcoin Holds Near $86,000 as US Stocks Reach Fresh Records

Bitcoin remained close to $86,000 on Tuesday while strong buying in US equities pushed major stock indexes to new all-time highs. The cryptocurrency made another attempt to approach $87,000, but sell orders concentrated around that level limited its advance, according to Cointelegraph.

Bitcoin meets resistance near $87,000

TradingView data showed BTC/USD attempting to recover toward $87,000 after failing to break above that area on Monday. The market’s upward movement was constrained by substantial “ask” liquidity on exchange order books. Ask liquidity refers to sell orders waiting at specified prices; when a large number of those orders are clustered together, buyers must absorb them before the market can move higher.

CoinGlass data identified the largest concentration of liquidity around $87,000, with a ladder of sell orders extending down to approximately $86,500. That order-book structure helped keep Bitcoin’s price below the nearby resistance zone during the session.

The key technical support level highlighted in the market analysis was Bitcoin’s 21-day simple moving average, positioned at about $83,500. A simple moving average tracks the average price over a set period and is commonly used by traders to monitor short-term trends.

Keith Alan, co-founder of the crypto trading platform Material Indicators, identified the area around $83,555 as a level to watch, along with the structure of any potential test of $82,500 support. He also pointed to $87,375 as an important threshold and $87,496 as the yearly opening level in his market commentary published on X.

US indexes set new records

While Bitcoin traded within a relatively narrow range, US stocks moved decisively higher after Wall Street opened. The S&P 500 rose 0.8% to 7,835 points, a new record. The Nasdaq 100 reached 31,312 points, while the Nasdaq Composite climbed to 27,683 points, with both indexes also setting fresh highs.

The Kobeissi Letter, a trading and market analysis publication, said the S&P 500 had gained 24%, equivalent to $71.3 trillion in value, since March 30. The sharp rise in equities placed the contrast with Bitcoin’s more limited advance in focus, although the two markets have shown some relationship in recent data.

CryptoQuant data put the current correlation between Bitcoin and the S&P 500 at 0.51 on October 2, its highest level since early June. Correlation measures the degree to which two assets have moved together over a particular period. It does not mean that one market determines the direction of the other, and the reported figure concerns the relationship observed in the data rather than a guarantee of future price movements.

Mosaic Asset Company said changing expectations about Federal Reserve interest-rate increases in the fourth quarter of 2026 could support further gains in stocks. The firm described shifting views on the Fed and a slower pace of rate hikes as a possible catalyst for a sustained rally.

At the same time, Mosaic said market breadth remained weak. Only 25% of stocks were trading above their 50-day simple moving averages in the previous week, close to the lowest level recorded over six months. The firm noted that technology companies accounted for much of the market’s recent advance. It also said similarly oversold breadth had occurred once earlier in the year, in late March, when the S&P 500 approached correction territory.

Moneyiar market picture

Moneyiar data at 10:19 a.m. on October 7, 2026, showed Bitcoin at $83,872.25, down 2.55% over 24 hours but up 0.21% over seven days. The figure places the cryptocurrency below the $86,000 level described in Tuesday’s trading discussion and below the cited $83,500 21-day average by a relatively narrow margin.

Moneyiar’s data at 12:29 p.m. on October 6, 2026, also showed RHEA Finance at $0.0886135758. RHEA was up 6.97% over 24 hours but down 34.69% over seven days.

For Bitcoin, the immediate market picture described in the source material centered on the tension between resistance near $87,000 and support around $83,500. The US equity rally provided a backdrop of record-high risk-asset prices, while Bitcoin’s order-book liquidity continued to limit its move toward the next major price area.
