Bitcoin has retreated after a strong rally, while investors prepare for a week of U.S. economic releases that could shape expectations for interest rates and influence digital-asset markets. The cryptocurrency was quoted at $84,117.13 in the outlook published by CoinDesk, down about 1% since Friday and more than 2% over the previous 24 hours as it moved back from the $84,000 level.
The pause in crypto markets comes after last week’s hawkish Federal Reserve rate decision, which lifted the central bank’s benchmark target rate to 4%. Attention now turns to employment, inflation, growth, manufacturing and housing data. These figures are closely watched because they can affect expectations for the future direction of monetary policy, which in turn can influence trading across asset classes.
U.S. data dominates the calendar
The week’s most important releases are scheduled for Wednesday through Friday. The sequence begins with the final reading of second-quarter U.S. gross domestic product and the August core Personal Consumption Expenditures price index on Sept. 30.
The final GDP growth estimate is expected at 1.5% quarter on quarter, compared with a previous reading of 2.1%. The August core PCE index, which excludes food and energy prices, is expected to rise 0.3% month on month, up from 0.2% previously.
The labor market becomes the central focus on Oct. 1, when the U.S. releases initial jobless claims for the period ending Sept. 26. Claims are forecast at 199,000, compared with 197,000 in the prior reading. The same day, the Institute for Supply Management’s manufacturing purchasing managers’ index is expected to come in at 54.8 for September, up from 54.6.
Friday brings the employment report. Nonfarm payrolls are forecast to increase by 84,000 in September, down from 162,000 previously, while average hourly earnings are expected to rise 0.3% month on month, matching the prior figure.
Earlier in the week, the S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index for July is expected to show an annual increase of 2.2%, compared with 2.1% previously. The housing reading is due Sept. 29.
Network upgrade and governance votes
Outside the macroeconomic calendar, Solana is opening the activation window for Alpenglow, a major consensus upgrade. The change replaces the network’s TowerBFT system with the Votor protocol and is intended to reduce the transaction overhead associated with voting across the network.
Several decentralized-project governance processes are also scheduled. World Liberty Financial’s preliminary vote on its Governance Engagement Incentive Program ends Sept. 28. The proposal would set Oct. 1 as the launch date for a program designed to encourage community participation through token rewards.
Balancer is voting on a proposal to create a new ecosystem by forking its core architecture. The vote ends Sept. 29, as the protocol faces the possibility of shutting down.
Decentraland’s vote ends Oct. 1 and concerns a security response after more than 1,000 Decentraland Names were stolen from user accounts. The proposal calls for an immediate investigation and temporary measures that could freeze or suspend smart-contract activity, affected accounts and secondary transfers connected with the names.
Token supply events are also scheduled. Canton is set to unlock 0.38% of its circulating supply on Sept. 28, valued at $20.7 million based on the figures provided. Falcon Finance is scheduled to unlock 2.39% of its circulating supply on Sept. 29, valued at $9.73 million. No confirmed major token launches are listed for the week.
