Bitcoin climbed toward $82,000 on Wednesday as Asian and US technology stocks extended their recovery, while traders watched whether the cryptocurrency could establish support above the $80,000 level. The move came as market concerns over artificial-intelligence spending and debt financing appeared to ease ahead of major corporate earnings and a Federal Reserve policy decision.
According to Cointelegraph, Bitcoin reached $81,687 on Bitstamp. Buying interest appeared to strengthen around $79,000 and $80,000, helping the market avoid fresh hourly lows. However, resistance near $82,000 remained in place, leaving uncertainty over where Bitcoin’s next trading range could form.
Technology stocks add to the market rebound
South Korea’s KOSPI Composite Index gained 6.63% during Wednesday’s session and moved back above 6,000 points for the first time since Oct. 14. Its advance for the week stood at 9.3%, supported by a recovery in technology shares after losses earlier in October.
The rebound also extended to the United States. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite closed 1.1% higher on Tuesday, before earnings reports expected from Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon and Intel. Samsung was scheduled to release its third-quarter results on Thursday.
The broader improvement in technology shares provided a more supportive backdrop for Bitcoin, which often trades alongside other risk-sensitive assets, although the source material does not establish a direct cause-and-effect relationship between the stock-market gains and the cryptocurrency’s move.
Morgan Stanley strategist sees correction largely complete
Mike Wilson, Morgan Stanley’s chief US equity strategist, told CNBC that technology stocks could be entering another bullish phase following their October sell-off. He said markets had spent four or five months in correction mode and had absorbed that adjustment efficiently.
Investors were also largely expecting the Federal Reserve to leave interest rates unchanged at its Wednesday meeting. CME Group’s FedWatch tool put the probability of rates remaining in the 3.75%-4% range at 90.6%.
For Bitcoin, the combination of a technology-stock rebound and expectations for stable interest rates formed the main market context for Wednesday’s recovery. It did not, however, resolve the technical question of whether the cryptocurrency could move decisively above $82,000.
Analysts continue to watch the $82,000 barrier
Crypto trader and analyst Rekt Capital compared Bitcoin’s weekly chart with the structure seen during the 2022 bear market. The comparison focused on repeated moves below $80,000 and the lack of clarity over whether Bitcoin can build a new range above resistance near $82,000.
Rekt Capital also said Bitcoin had not yet invalidated a broader accumulation range between $60,000 and $80,000 on weekly time frames. In market analysis, a trading range describes an area in which an asset moves between relatively defined support and resistance levels; a sustained move beyond either boundary can change how traders assess the chart.
