Bitcoin Recovers to $82,837 as Traders Still See Risk of Further Declines

Bitcoin rebounded to $82,837 after briefly falling below $80,500, while the wider crypto market recovered to $2.89 trillion. However, heavy Bitcoin ETF outflows, elevated Treasury yields and prediction-market odds pointing to further declines kept traders cautious.

Bitcoin recovered modestly on Friday after falling to its lowest level since early September, but derivatives and prediction-market indicators showed that traders remained cautious. The broader crypto market also bounced, although its value stayed below the $3 trillion level reached a week earlier.

Bitcoin and crypto market recover

Bitcoin rose 1.38% to $82,837 on Friday after dropping to $80,427 on Thursday. The daily session opened at $81,711 and traded between $81,553 and $83,443, according to the market figures reported by Decrypt.

Total cryptocurrency market capitalization increased by about 2.1% to $2.89 trillion. That recovery was not enough to erase the previous week’s losses: the market had been above $3 trillion a week earlier, when Bitcoin was approaching its annual high.

Market sentiment also eased rather than improved. The Fear & Greed Index fell to 56, a neutral reading, from 71 on October 2, when the gauge indicated greed. The index is designed to summarize investor sentiment, with higher readings generally reflecting stronger risk appetite.

ETF outflows add to pressure

Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded two sizeable days of withdrawals. They lost $484.9 million on Wednesday, their biggest one-day outflow since June 25, followed by another $244 million on Thursday, according to Decrypt’s ETF tracker.

The selling came as the 10-year Treasury yield reached 5.32%. Minutes from the Federal Reserve also pointed to the possibility of another interest-rate increase before the end of the year. Higher yields and expectations of tighter monetary policy can make riskier assets less attractive to investors, although the source material does not identify a single cause for the ETF outflows.

Traders keep downside scenarios in view

Despite Friday’s rebound, short-term technical readings remained mixed. Bitcoin was still trading below its 50-period exponential moving average on the four-hour chart, suggesting that the recent bounce had not yet reversed the short-term trend.

Myriad, a prediction market owned by Decrypt parent company Dastan, put the probability of Bitcoin trading at or below $80,000 at 67% before the end of October. The same market assigned 40% odds to a move to $77,500 and 24% odds to a decline to $75,000. A separate weekly market gave Bitcoin a 49% chance of ending the week above $87,500.

Other indicators offered a more balanced picture. The daily Average Directional Index stood at 37.9, above the 25 level commonly used to indicate a meaningful trend. Buyers’ directional line remained above sellers’ line, keeping the broader trend technically bullish. The Relative Strength Index was 51.2, a neutral reading that suggested buying pressure had cooled from an earlier overbought phase.

Bitwise Europe’s Luke Deans told Decrypt that the $83,000 area is an important initial test because it combines the average ETF cost basis with a previous higher-high level. A sustained recovery could bring $84,433 into focus, while Bitcoin’s September high of $87,354.33 remains the level bulls would need to close above on a daily basis.
