Bitcoin fails again at $87,000 as bond yields rise and stocks hold near records

Bitcoin fell back to about $85,600 after sellers rejected $87,000 for the third time since Sept. 23. The move came as stocks hovered near records, Treasury yields climbed and the broader crypto market slipped to roughly $2.93 trillion.

Bitcoin fails again at $87,000 as bond yields rise and stocks hold near records

Bitcoin retreated after another failed attempt to move above $87,000, keeping the cryptocurrency below a level that has repeatedly stopped its rallies since late September. The pullback came as U.S. stocks remained close to record highs, while Treasury yields continued to climb.

According to CoinDesk, bitcoin was down 1.2% at about $85,600 during Asian morning trading on Tuesday after sellers pushed the price back from slightly above $87,000 on Monday. It was the third rejection of that level since Sept. 23.

The decline left bitcoin trading in a market where support has been rising, but buying momentum has not been strong enough to overcome the repeated selling around $87,000. The broader crypto market also weakened, slipping to approximately $2.93 trillion.

Bitcoin’s repeated test of $87,000

Bitcoin’s recent price pattern has been marked by higher local lows since the beginning of the previous week. That suggests buyers have been stepping in at progressively higher prices, but each rally has lost force near the same resistance level.

FxPro analyst Alex Kuptsikevich said bitcoin was approaching the apex of a triangle formed by rising support and horizontal resistance at $87,000. In technical-market terms, such a pattern reflects a narrowing range between buyers defending higher levels and sellers remaining active at a fixed ceiling.

Kuptsikevich said the setup could bring increased volatility if the price breaks out of the pattern. A sustained move above $87,000 would require buyers to absorb the selling pressure at that level and keep bitcoin above it. That would indicate that the supply repeatedly appearing near $87,000 had diminished and could open a path toward bitcoin’s highest prices in eight months, according to the report.

For now, the level remains unbroken. The total crypto market value was also just below the roughly $2.95 trillion resistance level identified by FxPro, while the dollar strengthened.

Mixed performance across digital assets

The retreat was broad among several large cryptocurrencies, although some tokens moved against the market direction.

  • HYPE rose 3% to about $94.
  • BNB was the weakest among the assets highlighted, falling 2.5%.
  • Ether, XRP, Solana and Dogecoin each declined between 1% and 2%.
  • Zcash and TRX were little changed.
  • Cardano’s ADA climbed 11%, while The Graph’s GRT gained 7% and NEAR rose nearly 7% in the trading described by CoinDesk.

The different performances show that the decline in the overall crypto market did not affect every token equally. Bitcoin’s importance for market direction remains tied in this case to its inability to clear the $87,000 barrier, while individual altcoins recorded substantial gains despite the broader weakness.

Stocks stay firm while Treasury yields rise

The crypto pullback took place against a stronger backdrop for major equity markets. The Nasdaq 100 closed at a record high, the S&P 500 ended within 0.5% of its all-time high, and MSCI’s Asia Pacific index rose 0.1%.

Bond markets moved in the opposite direction. The yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note increased one basis point to 5.32%, a level described as close to those last seen in 2002. The two-year Treasury yield rose two basis points to 4.83%.

Higher yields can reflect falling bond prices and increase the return available from government debt. The report also noted a warning from billionaire Ray Dalio that the Treasury market could be vulnerable to reduced demand from China and Japan. No confirmed change in demand was reported in the material.

The combination of firm stocks, a stronger dollar and rising yields provided the market context for bitcoin’s retreat. It also highlighted that the cryptocurrency was not rising in step with equities during this session.

Moneyiar market picture

Moneyiar market data recorded on Oct. 7, 2026, at 10:09 a.m. Tehran time showed bitcoin at $83,687.40, down 2.69% over 24 hours and almost unchanged over seven days, with a seven-day decline of 0.02%.

The same Moneyiar data showed NEAR Protocol at $4.9814, down 5.18% over 24 hours and 2.42% over seven days. These figures were recorded after the trading levels described in the report and therefore provide a later market snapshot rather than a direct measure of the earlier move.

Bitcoin’s subsequent level in the Moneyiar data was below both the approximately $85,600 price cited during Tuesday Asian trading and the $87,000 ceiling that sellers had defended. The immediate focus in the reported setup remains whether buyers can eventually sustain a move above that resistance or whether the narrowing trading pattern produces another pullback.
