Bitcoin slips below $83,000 as Iran uncertainty and sell-side liquidity weigh on market

Bitcoin fell below $82,700 as sell-side liquidity near $85,700 blocked a fresh rally toward its 2026 opening level. The move followed renewed Iran-related uncertainty, which also pressured US stock futures and pushed WTI crude above $95 a barrel.

Bitcoin slips below $83,000 as Iran uncertainty and sell-side liquidity weigh on market

Bitcoin fell to a weekly low on Monday as renewed geopolitical uncertainty and heavy sell-side liquidity limited its attempt to extend last week’s rally. The cryptocurrency dropped below $82,700, while US stock futures also weakened after US President Donald Trump declined to rule out further strikes on Iran.

According to Cointelegraph, BTC/USD had reached a weekly close of about $84,450, its strongest since late January. However, the market failed to make another attempt at the eight-month highs above $87,000 recorded the previous week.

Sell-side liquidity interrupts Bitcoin’s advance

More than $30 million in ask liquidity appeared around $85,700 on exchange order books. In market terminology, ask liquidity represents sell orders waiting at specified prices. A large and conspicuous concentration can make it harder for buyers to push the market higher and may reflect an effort by large traders to influence short-term price direction.

Bitcoin subsequently fell below $82,700, its lowest level since Sept. 21, according to TradingView data cited in the report. The decline also forced the closure of nearby leveraged long positions. CoinGlass data showed roughly $70 million in long liquidations over a 24-hour period at the time of reporting.

The move in Bitcoin came alongside losses in US stock futures. Nasdaq futures were down 0.9% on the day at the time of writing. Oil prices moved in the opposite direction: WTI crude rose above $95 a barrel for the first time since Sept. 24.

The market reaction followed comments from Trump at the PGA Tour Presidents Cup on Sunday. Asked about permanently halting strikes on Iran, he did not rule out additional military action, saying: “I don’t want to say that. I don’t want to say that. I mean, it’s possible, but I just don’t want to say that,” according to Fox News.

$88,700 yearly open remains out of reach

The $85,700 sell-side area prevented a renewed advance toward Bitcoin’s 2026 opening level at $88,700. Price had stalled near that level during the previous week, leaving the yearly open as a key point that buyers had not reclaimed.

Markets commentator Aksel Kibar had already questioned the strength of Bitcoin’s advance before the move below $83,000. He said the price action did not look like a “decisive breakout” and warned that hesitant trading could send BTC/USD back into its previous range.

That range spans roughly $60,000 to $80,000, an area where Bitcoin traded for much of 2026. Kibar’s assessment points to the difference between a sustained breakout and a brief move above resistance: Bitcoin had risen, but the follow-through toward the yearly open failed after sellers appeared near $85,700.
