Bitcoin stalls below $82,000 as $83,000 sell wall offsets stock-market rebound

Bitcoin fell back below $82,000 after meeting heavy selling interest above $83,000, even as Asian and US stocks rebounded. Higher US Treasury yields and $335 million in crypto liquidations added to a mixed backdrop for the largest cryptocurrency.

Bitcoin stalls below $82,000 as $83,000 sell wall offsets stock-market rebound

Bitcoin struggled to extend its early-week recovery on Monday, falling back below $82,000 even as major equity markets moved higher. Selling interest above $83,000 limited the cryptocurrency’s advance, while a renewed rise in US Treasury yields added to a mixed backdrop for risk assets.

According to Cointelegraph, BTC/USD reached $83,062 earlier in the day before dipping to $81,678 on Bitstamp after Wall Street opened. The move left Bitcoin trading in a relatively narrow range, with resistance building around the $83,000 level.

Bitcoin diverges from recovering equities

The cryptocurrency’s weakness came as stocks rebounded in both Asia and the United States. South Korea’s technology-heavy KOSPI Composite Index ended the day 1.76% higher at 5,768 points. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 1.5% during the first hours of Monday’s US session.

The gains helped markets recover part of the losses recorded the previous week, when technology shares faced heavier selling pressure. Bitcoin, however, did not follow the equity-market recovery, showing that the relationship between crypto and other risk-sensitive assets was not uniform during the session.

US government bond yields also moved higher alongside stocks. The 10-year Treasury yield returned to 5.13%, while the 30-year yield reached 5.46%. The moves came ahead of several corporate earnings announcements expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, including reports from Meta, SpaceX and Tesla, according to the source material.

Bond yields are closely watched by investors because they influence borrowing costs and the relative appeal of different assets. In this session, the combination of rising equities and higher yields provided no clear lift for Bitcoin, despite the broader improvement in stock-market sentiment.

Analysts focus on bonds and the $80,000 level

Trading firm QCP Capital said stability in the bond market would be important for Bitcoin’s ability to build upward momentum. It also warned that a renewed sell-off in technology stocks could affect cryptocurrency markets if broader deleveraging continued.

QCP Capital identified $80,000 as a potential support level in that scenario. It said sustained pressure across equities could be transmitted to crypto markets, while a lasting rally in Treasury bonds could support risk assets if it occurred alongside falling real yields and a weaker US dollar.

These comments highlight the importance of cross-market moves for Bitcoin. A rise in bond prices generally corresponds to lower yields, while a fall in yields can alter the conditions facing risk-sensitive assets. In Monday’s trading, however, Treasury yields were rising rather than falling, leaving Bitcoin without the potential support described by QCP Capital.

Exchange order books cap Bitcoin’s advance

The immediate obstacle for Bitcoin was visible in exchange order books. Ask liquidity—sell orders waiting at specified prices—became concentrated above $83,000. This created a sell wall, meaning buyers had to absorb a large amount of supply before the price could move decisively higher.

CoinGlass data showed that the concentration of sell orders was putting pressure on BTC/USD. Across the cryptocurrency market, liquidations over the previous 24 hours totaled $335 million. Liquidations occur when leveraged positions are forcibly closed after the market moves far enough against traders, and they can add to short-term volatility.

On-chain data also pointed to less activity from large Bitcoin holders. CryptoQuant reported that its Binance whale ratio fell to 0.45 from 0.54 at the start of October. The metric measures the share of the 10 largest inflow transactions compared with total inflows to the exchange.

CryptoQuant said the decline indicated that large Bitcoin deposit transactions represented a smaller proportion of overall exchange inflows. It added that the change could reflect adjustments in whales’ trading strategies and asset-management activity. The data did not, by itself, establish whether large holders were preparing to buy or sell.

Moneyiar market picture

Moneyiar market data at 22:14 on October 19, 2026, showed Bitcoin at $82,022.99, up 0.59% over 24 hours but down 0.73% over seven days.

Other selected assets showed mixed performance at the same time:

  • Walrus was $0.0382624839, down 1.7% over 24 hours and up 7.37% over seven days.
  • Propy was $0.3402203282, down 1.8% over 24 hours and 4.23% over seven days.
  • Succinct was $0.1808007716, up 1.32% over 24 hours but down 7.02% over seven days.

Bitcoin’s market picture therefore remained defined by short-term resistance near $83,000, a higher-yield environment and a broader crypto market experiencing substantial leveraged-position liquidations.
