Bitget will discontinue its services for a group of users in a one-off exercise, while saying that affected customers’ funds will remain safe and that its cryptocurrency platform will continue operating. The exchange said users selected for the change would receive individual instructions about what happens next.
What Bitget announced
In a post on X on Saturday, Bitget said the users involved would be contacted directly through email, in-app messages and/or push notifications. Those communications will set out the relevant deadlines, next steps and arrangements for withdrawing funds.
Users who have not received an official notification from Bitget can continue using their accounts as usual, according to the exchange. Bitget also said its customer-support team would remain available to help with pending orders, withdrawals and other account-related questions during the process.
The announcement describes the move as a one-off exercise affecting certain customers, rather than a suspension of the exchange’s overall operations. Bitget said the crypto platform would continue to operate during the change.
Safety and official communications
Bitget said user funds are safe during the service change. It directed users to a page where they can verify the safety of their assets and urged customers to rely only on official communication channels.
The exchange also warned users to be alert to phishing links, impersonation accounts and information that has not been verified. This is particularly relevant when customers are being asked to review account arrangements or make withdrawals, since fraudulent messages can imitate an exchange’s branding or support operations.
Users who receive a notification should follow the instructions and deadlines included in the official message, while customers who have not been contacted should not assume that the exercise applies to them.
Security-breach background
The announcement comes after Bitget was reported to have confirmed unauthorized transfers and temporarily suspended withdrawals while investigating a security breach. Cointelegraph reported on Sept. 25 that the exchange had acknowledged those developments. A security company later estimated the total amount stolen in the breach at about $388 million.
The source material does not state that the latest service discontinuations are directly connected to that breach. It does, however, place the new customer communications in a period when users are being reminded to verify information carefully and use official support channels.
