Bitway’s BTW leads smaller-token rally as bitcoin holds near $85,000

Smaller cryptocurrencies moved sharply higher while bitcoin remained trapped in a narrow and unsettled range, with Bitway’s BTW token emerging as the day’s strongest performer. BTW gained 25% in 24 hours and had risen 170% over the previous 30 days, according to CoinDesk. The move came as traders continued to assess bitcoin’s next potential direction and derivatives markets showed signs of easing leverage.

BTW takes the lead among smaller tokens

BTW is the native token of Bitway, a bitcoin-compatible layer-1 blockchain that uses proof-of-stake consensus and includes decentralized-finance infrastructure. Its latest advance placed it at the front of a broader rally in smaller cryptocurrencies, even as larger assets such as bitcoin and ether continued to trade unevenly.

The token also attracted increased attention on social media after Binance Wallet’s “Booster Season 5” campaign ended on Oct. 2. The campaign offered rewards for deposits. The available information does not establish how much of BTW’s move was connected to the promotion, but the token’s visibility increased around the campaign’s conclusion.

Other smaller tokens also recorded notable gains. Filecoin’s FIL rose 12% over 24 hours and LayerZero’s ZRO gained 10%; both were up at least 50% over four weeks. Midnight’s NIGHT token advanced 8% over the same period. At the opposite end of the market, SKY, VVV and DASH were the weakest performers among the 100 largest tokens by market value.

The mixed performance illustrates the uneven nature of the current crypto market. Capital and attention were concentrated in selected smaller tokens rather than spread uniformly across major cryptocurrencies and the wider altcoin sector.

Bitcoin remains near a key range

Bitcoin was trading around $85,900 in the market snapshot described by CoinDesk, after reaching an intraday low near $85,000. The largest cryptocurrency remained within a choppy range rather than establishing a clear new trend.

Alex Kuptsikevich, chief market analyst at TheFxPro, said a move below $84,000 would indicate that bearish traders were gaining control. He added that a break below recent local lows near $83,000 would provide stronger confirmation and could be followed by a relatively quick decline toward $80,000.

Those levels describe potential market signposts rather than confirmed outcomes. Bitcoin’s position matters for smaller tokens because changes in the leading cryptocurrency can affect overall trading conditions across digital-asset markets. In this case, however, several smaller assets were rising while bitcoin was largely moving sideways.

Derivatives show leverage cooling

Bitcoin futures positioning was broadly stable. Open interest, which measures the value of outstanding derivatives contracts, stood at approximately $21.9 billion, little changed from $22 billion. Funding rates also eased, sitting broadly between 0% and 5% on an annualized basis, compared with a previously elevated range of 4% to 10%.

The three-month annualized basis remained between 5% and 6%. Together, the figures indicated that leveraged positions were still present, but the cost and intensity of that positioning had moderated after an increase on Friday.

Options trading remained tilted toward calls. The 24-hour put-to-call volume split was 62% calls to 38% puts. The one-week 25-delta skew was approximately minus 2%, while the at-the-money term structure remained in contango, rising from roughly 24%-25% at the front end to about 39% by late 2027.

Coinglass data showed $163 million in liquidations over 24 hours. Long positions accounted for 63% of the total and short positions for 27%, with bitcoin-related liquidations at $51 million, other assets at $21 million and ether at $19 million. Binance’s liquidation heatmap identified $87,150 as a key liquidation level to watch if bitcoin moved higher.
