Jack Dorsey’s Block has launched a new advertising campaign aimed at encouraging people to use bitcoin for everyday payments, extending the company’s efforts to promote the cryptocurrency as a medium of exchange.

According to Bitcoin Magazine, the NYSE-listed company announced the campaign on Thursday. The initiative presents Block’s vision of a financial system centered on bitcoin, rather than focusing only on the asset as an investment or store of value.

A campaign focused on everyday payments

The campaign is being introduced as affordability and high prices remain major concerns in the United States ahead of the midterm elections. Its advertising features ordinary Americans discussing the cost of living and other frustrations, including complaints about government bailouts for Wall Street banks.

The ads use the slogan “Some things don’t make sense. Bitcoin does.” Block said the campaign began rolling out on Thursday across YouTube, X, Meta and Instagram. Television placements on Fox Sports are scheduled to continue through December 31, while selected cinema screenings of *Avengers: Doomsday* and *Dune 3* will also carry the advertisements.

Miles Suter, Block’s Bitcoin Lead, said the company’s focus is on financial products that make daily life easier. He described the campaign as Block’s first major illustration of what a bitcoin-centered financial system could look like and said the company wanted to demonstrate how it could affect people’s lives.

Block’s broader Bitcoin strategy

The campaign builds on products and projects Block has already associated with bitcoin. Cash App allows users to buy and sell the cryptocurrency, as well as send and receive it. The company also operates point-of-sale terminals, while Square accepts bitcoin payments through the Lightning Network, a system designed to enable faster transactions on the Bitcoin network.

Block introduced a bitcoin mining rig last year with interchangeable parts. The stated idea was to allow miners to reduce the cost of repairing or replacing equipment.

Jack Dorsey, Block’s billionaire founder, left Twitter in 2021 to concentrate on payments and bitcoin adoption. He has said he wants bitcoin to become a global currency and has described the cryptocurrency’s white paper, published under the name Satoshi Nakamoto, as “poetry.”

The new advertising effort therefore connects Block’s consumer payments business with Dorsey’s longer-term ambition: making bitcoin something people use to pay for goods and services in ordinary life. The campaign itself does not change how bitcoin works, but it places the company’s message in front of consumers through mainstream media, social platforms, sports broadcasts and movie screenings.
