BNB Chain has become the first blockchain to surpass $1 billion in tokenized stocks and exchange-traded funds, marking a major shift in where blockchain-based versions of traditional market products are being issued and held.
The value of tokenized stocks and ETFs on BNB Chain stood at $1.1 billion at the time of publication, according to Cointelegraph. That represented roughly 30% of the broader tokenized stock and ETF market, which was valued at $3.7 billion.
BNB Chain takes the largest share
Tokenized stocks and ETFs are blockchain-based representations of investment products that traditionally trade through financial-market infrastructure. Their ownership and transfers are recorded on a blockchain, while the products are designed to track stocks or exchange-traded funds.
The overall market expanded sharply in September. Token Terminal data showed that the sector’s market capitalization increased by about 17%, reaching $3.35 billion from $2.87 billion in August. The wider market figure cited at the time of publication was $3.7 billion.
BNB Chain ranked ahead of other major networks by tokenized stock and ETF market value:
- BNB Chain: $1.1 billion, or roughly 30% of the market
- Ethereum: $828 million, or 22%
- Solana: $738 million, or 20%
The network’s activity is linked to products including Binance bStocks and tokenized securities offered through Ondo Global Markets.
User participation has also expanded
BNB Chain’s lead is not limited to the value of assets issued on the network. Binance Research said in a report on Tuesday that 1.8 million addresses held tokenized stocks on BNB Chain. That amounted to 45% of all addresses holding such assets, according to the report.
The figures indicate that BNB Chain has gained ground both in the value of tokenized products and in the number of blockchain addresses participating in the market. However, a blockchain address is not necessarily the same as an individual investor, since one person or organization may control more than one address.
Market growth since January
The sector has grown more than fivefold from January, when tokenized stocks and ETFs were valued at $719 million. At that point, Ethereum held about 48% of the market, while Solana accounted for 31% and BNB Chain for only 13%, based on Token Terminal data.
The change highlights how quickly the competitive balance among blockchains has shifted during the year. BNB Chain’s share rose from 13% in January to roughly 30% at the time of publication, while the total market expanded considerably.
