Breez has introduced a feature that allows applications using its software development kit to receive stablecoin payments from more than 30 crypto networks while delivering the funds to the recipient as bitcoin.
The update is designed to reduce one of the practical complications of stablecoins: payments made across different blockchain networks often require compatible wallets and knowledge of which network to select. Under Breez’s new system, the recipient chooses the sender’s network and specifies an amount. The SDK then creates a deposit address and displays the amount expected to arrive. The sender can complete the transaction through their usual wallet.
According to Bitcoin Magazine, the payment is converted in the background by Flashnet. The recipient receives the funds in a non-custodial wallet as bitcoin, although users of Breez’s Stable Balance feature can instead receive a dollar-denominated balance.
How the new feature works
Breez’s SDK is a toolkit for developers building applications with bitcoin payment capabilities. It provides functions including wallet creation, sending and receiving, and Lightning Network payments. Developers can use those capabilities without building the underlying payment infrastructure, operating their own nodes or managing liquidity themselves.
The new receiving function expands the ways users can interact with stablecoins. Stablecoins are crypto assets designed to track the value of a fiat currency, commonly the U.S. dollar, but they can exist on many separate networks. That fragmentation can make transfers difficult when the sender and recipient use different wallets or chains.
Breez’s software handles the conversion between the incoming stablecoin payment and the asset held by the recipient. The wallet remains non-custodial, meaning the user retains control of the funds rather than handing custody to a centralized service.
Part of a broader product rollout
The company introduced the ability to send USDT and USDC in June. With the latest receiving capability, a balance powered by Breez can move stablecoins in both directions across nearly any network, according to the company.
The release follows other efforts to make bitcoin applications operate more like mainstream financial apps. Breez has added passkey login, instant onboarding through Cash App and Stable Balance, which presents funds in dollar terms. Its Glow application, launched in August, serves as a reference app demonstrating the SDK’s capabilities.
In July, Breez also announced a partnership with Turnkey. That arrangement is intended to let developers add non-custodial bitcoin to applications whose wallets run on the developers’ own servers, addressing a custody-related obstacle for consumer platforms considering bitcoin integration.
