Canton CEO Yuval Rooz says the crypto industry should use the current US regulatory environment to speed up institutional adoption, arguing that blockchain could become difficult for a future administration to reverse once it is widely used.
Adoption as a policy shield
Speaking at Token2049 in Singapore, Rooz said blockchain adoption should become sufficiently widespread that the industry can withstand changes after the next US presidential election, scheduled for Nov. 7, 2028. His argument is that broad commercial and institutional use could make policy reversals more difficult, regardless of which administration takes office.
Rooz compared the opportunity for blockchain with the growth of Uber and Airbnb. He argued that both services became deeply established before policymakers were able to impose effective restrictions, leaving regulators to address businesses that were already widely used.
The comments reflect a central concern for crypto companies and investors: regulatory progress can change when political priorities shift. Rooz said the industry should make use of the current environment to accelerate adoption rather than assume that today’s direction will continue indefinitely.
Debate over the CLARITY Act
The discussion comes after the CLARITY Act failed to advance in a Senate procedural vote in September. The proposed legislation has been viewed by industry participants as a way to establish clearer rules for digital assets and reduce uncertainty for institutions considering the market.
Binance co-CEO Richard Teng, who appeared on the same Token2049 panel, said he hoped the bill would still become law. He argued that legislation could help prevent regulatory backtracking and encourage more institutions to enter the sector, describing a reversal of recent progress as the industry’s “biggest fear.”
At the same time, Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson said legislation would offer greater certainty but cautioned that the sector should not depend on the CLARITY Act passing. She pointed to ongoing work by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission under their existing authority, saying that these efforts could allow innovation and institutional adoption to continue.
Current market picture
Moneyiar market data at 9:14 a.m. on Oct. 8, 2026, showed Canton (CC) at $0.1183964703, down 0.51% over 24 hours and 4.26% over seven days. BNB was priced at $767.7932154691 at 9:13 a.m., down 0.5% in 24 hours but up 0.14% over seven days.
Polygon (prev. MATIC), listed under the symbol POL, stood at $0.1016003154 at 9:14 a.m., down 0.71% in 24 hours and 9.34% over seven days. These figures describe market performance at the stated times and do not indicate how US policy will develop.
The competing views at Token2049 underline the industry’s strategic choice: seek formal legislation for greater certainty, or build enough real-world use that changing political priorities have less practical effect. According to Cointelegraph, Rooz’s message was that adoption itself could become the strongest protection against a future regulatory reversal.
