Cardano’s ADA Rally Faces a Test as Leverage Outpaces On-Chain Liquidity

Cardano’s ADA has gained about 42% since Sept. 16, but open interest has expanded faster than the network’s stablecoin base. With ADA below the $0.28 breakout area, traders are watching whether fresh liquidity supports the rally or leveraged longs become exposed.

Cardano’s ADA Rally Faces a Test as Leverage Outpaces On-Chain Liquidity

Cardano’s ADA token has staged a sharp advance since mid-September, but the derivatives buildup behind the move has grown faster than the network’s available stablecoin liquidity. That imbalance is putting the token’s next test near $0.28 under close scrutiny, as traders assess whether the rally can attract broader capital or leave leveraged positions vulnerable.

According to CryptoSlate, ADA rose about 42% from roughly $0.19 on Sept. 16 to around $0.27. The token briefly moved above $0.28 intraday on Oct. 6, but sellers rejected that level, which has become the immediate hurdle for the advance.

The rally has coincided with a rise in large transactions, derivatives positioning and decentralized-exchange activity. Those signals indicate stronger participation, but they also show that exposure has expanded against a relatively small pool of on-chain dollar liquidity.

Open interest grows faster than ADA

Santiment recorded 413 ADA transactions worth at least $100,000 on Oct. 5. That was the highest daily count since June 4 and approximately 2.2 times the recent weekday average. Social activity also increased, reaching about 1.1 times its recent baseline.

Between Oct. 3 and Oct. 5, ADA gained around 10%, while open interest climbed approximately 25% to $304 million. Open interest measures the value of outstanding derivatives contracts. Because it also increased by about 13% when measured in ADA rather than dollars, the rise was not simply the result of ADA’s higher price.

The data points to new positions entering the market. Funding rates also shifted from their most negative level in a month into positive territory as ADA advanced. Positive funding generally reflects a market in which long-position holders are paying short-position holders, indicating that bullish derivatives positioning has become more prominent.

That combination can support a rally when price and open interest rise together. It can also increase the market’s sensitivity to a reversal, particularly if traders have used leverage to build long positions.

On-chain activity rises while stablecoin supply slips

The move has extended beyond centralized-exchange trading. DefiLlama data shows Cardano’s seven-day decentralized-exchange volume at $42.6 million, an increase of 147%. Cardano’s total value locked in DeFi stood at $71 million.

Stablecoin supply on the network was $66.8 million, down 0.74% over seven days. Stablecoins are dollar-linked cryptoassets commonly used as trading and settlement liquidity. In this case, the falling supply means the pool of on-chain dollars became slightly smaller during a week in which trading turnover accelerated.

Seven-day DEX volume was equivalent to about 64% of Cardano’s stablecoin base. That relationship suggests existing liquidity was changing hands more rapidly rather than the network receiving a comparable expansion of new dollar liquidity.

The gap is also visible when derivatives exposure is compared with on-chain stablecoins. Open interest of $304 million was about 4.6 times Cardano’s $66.8 million stablecoin supply. This comparison does not measure the same activity across the same venues, but it provides context for how large the derivatives positioning is relative to the network’s on-chain dollar base.

Why the $0.28 area matters

The next important question is whether ADA can clear and hold the $0.277-to-$0.28 range while open interest remains elevated. A sustained move through that zone could put pressure on remaining short positions and support the new bullish bets.

Several developments have helped renew attention around Cardano. RealFi launched on Oct. 1 with USDrf and sUSDrf, described as credit-backed dollar-token products. Cardano’s own channels have also listed Leios prototype work and Fireblocks support for Cardano native tokens as expected by March 2027. ADA’s social dominance reached 1.16%, its highest level of 2026.

The market data nevertheless leaves confirmation dependent on liquidity. A healthier continuation would involve stablecoin supply beginning to rise, DEX volume remaining elevated after the initial price move and funding staying moderate. If price stalls or turns lower near $0.28 while funding remains positive and open interest stays high, leveraged longs would face greater liquidation risk.

Long liquidations could add to downward pressure if DEX activity and large transactions weaken. Stablecoin inflows could provide some offset if they emerge, but the supplied data does not establish that such inflows are occurring.

Moneyiar market picture

Moneyiar data at 10:39 a.m. on Oct. 7, 2026, showed Cardano trading at $0.2543531881, down 8.17% over 24 hours but up 2.3% over seven days. ADA was ranked No. 14 by market capitalization in the supplied market information.

The latest Moneyiar reading places the token below the $0.277-to-$0.28 test identified in the market analysis. Whether ADA can regain that area, and whether open interest and stablecoin supply move in a supportive direction, will determine if the rally is gaining liquidity or relying mainly on leverage.
