Citi lifts 12-month Bitcoin target to $113,000 as buying data remains mixed

Citi has raised its 12-month Bitcoin target to $113,000, implying a 36% gain from the Oct. 7 reference price. ETF flows and other buying show signs of support, but thin trading volume and a sharp daily outflow leave the recovery’s durability uncertain.

Citi lifts 12-month Bitcoin target to $113,000 as buying data remains mixed

Citi has raised its 12-month Bitcoin price target to $113,000, a level that would require the cryptocurrency to gain about 36% from its Oct. 7 reference price of $83,085. The forecast points to a substantial recovery, but recent trading and fund-flow data suggest that sustained demand has yet to be confirmed.

According to CryptoSlate, the bank lifted its forecast from $82,000 on Oct. 1. Citi cited stronger market activity, supportive macroeconomic conditions and renewed inflows into exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The bank also expects about $5 billion of cryptocurrency inflows over the following year as financial advisers and brokerages gradually increase their allocations. On that timetable, the target would refer roughly to autumn 2027.

What Citi’s target would mean for Bitcoin

From the Oct. 7 reference price, Bitcoin would need to rise 36% to reach $113,000. That works out to approximately 2.6% compounded monthly over 12 months.

The target would still be below Bitcoin’s previous record of $126,198.07. Specifically, $113,000 is about 10.5% beneath that peak, making Citi’s forecast a recovery within a price range the cryptocurrency has already reached rather than an entirely new high.

Using the source material’s rounded circulating supply of 20.09 million Bitcoin, a price of $113,000 would imply a quoted market capitalization of approximately $2.27 trillion. That is about $601 billion higher than the market capitalization implied by the Oct. 7 price. The comparison holds circulating supply constant and does not account for later coin issuance.

Market capitalization is calculated by multiplying price by circulating supply. It therefore revalues coins that may not have changed hands. The estimated $601 billion increase does not represent the amount of cash that would necessarily need to enter the market, because the price is established through trading and available liquidity.

Bitcoin’s one-year annualized realized volatility stood at 43.97% on Oct. 6 in Glassnode’s point-in-time data. Measured using logarithmic returns, the gain required to reach Citi’s target is about 30.8%, or 0.70 times that annualized volatility measure. That comparison provides scale, but it is not a probability estimate or a directional forecast.

ETF flows offer support, but not a complete explanation

Citi’s case includes a role for Bitcoin ETFs, which hold the cryptocurrency on behalf of investors and issue shares that trade on exchanges. In a January 2025 outlook, the bank identified an historical association between Bitcoin returns and ETF inflows: roughly a 4.7% return for each $1 billion of inflows. Citi said those flows explained about 46% of the variance in price action in that analysis.

However, the bank’s public summary did not disclose the observation frequency or the complete regression equation behind that relationship. The $5 billion figure in its latest outlook was also not broken down in the report into a specific flow category.

As a purely arithmetic illustration, if all $5 billion were to become Bitcoin ETF net inflows, applying the older relationship linearly would imply a 23.5% gain from the Oct. 7 reference price, producing a price near $102,600. That exercise does not replicate Citi’s current model, show that the inflow forecast is insufficient, or establish a required annual flow threshold. The effect of buying can change with broader economic conditions and with the willingness of existing holders to sell.

Recent market data show new money but thin trading

Glassnode’s Oct. 7 analysis estimated combined Bitcoin spot-exchange and US spot Bitcoin ETF trading volume at about $6.8 billion per day on a seven-day average. That was below the level recorded on nine out of ten days since January 2024. Trading volume measures activity, while net fund flows measure the balance entering or leaving investment products; the two indicators do not convey the same information.

For the 30 days through Oct. 5, Glassnode estimated approximately $4.9 billion of new money from ETF flows, stablecoin growth and corporate treasury buying. Over the same period, Bitcoin’s realized capitalization rose by about $12.8 billion. Realized capitalization values coins according to the prices at which they last moved, so it measures a change in the aggregate cost basis rather than the quoted market value.

US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded net inflows of $118.8 million on Oct. 6, followed by net outflows of $484.9 million on Oct. 7, according to Farside’s daily table. The sharp reversal illustrates why a single day of buying does not establish a lasting trend.

Other market indicators provided mixed context. The Federal Reserve’s broad dollar index rose about 0.34% between Sept. 30 and Oct. 2. The 10-year Treasury yield increased seven basis points, from 5.24% on Oct. 1 to 5.31% on Oct. 5. DefiLlama’s Oct. 7 dashboard showed stablecoin capitalization at about $308 billion, up roughly 1% over 30 days. Stablecoins have several uses, so their growth does not automatically translate into Bitcoin purchases.

Moneyiar market picture

Moneyiar data at 21:59 on Oct. 8, 2026, showed Bitcoin at $81,627.076006201, down 1.81% over 24 hours and 3.44% over seven days. Bitcoin remained the top-ranked asset by market capitalization.

The other tracked assets were also lower: Monad was at $0.02430496, down 4.72% in 24 hours and 27.6% over seven days; Data Network stood at $0.1960615167, down 2.28% and 10.13%, respectively; and RedStone was at $0.1438596883, down 3.81% over 24 hours and 18.24% over seven days.

Citi’s target therefore depends on whether recent inflows develop into consistent demand. Stronger spot-market activity alongside recurring ETF purchases would provide firmer evidence for the forecast, while renewed redemptions would weaken that signal. The size of the required recovery has historical precedent, but the durability of buying remains unresolved.
