Cysic Exploit Suspect Sends $744,000 in Crypto to Tornado Cash

A wallet linked to the Cysic bridge exploit sent about $744,000 in ETH and BNB to Tornado Cash after the foundation offered a 10% bounty for returning most of the identified proceeds. Cysic had earlier frozen about 2.8 million newly minted tokens.

Cysic Exploit Suspect Sends $744,000 in Crypto to Tornado Cash

A wallet tied to the Cysic bridge exploit transferred about $744,000 in Ether and BNB to Tornado Cash, according to reporting by Cointelegraph. The movement came after the Cysic Foundation offered the attacker a 10% bounty for returning most of the identified proceeds.

Funds moved after bounty offer

Blockchain security company PeckShield identified transfers of 300 ETH and 30.4 BNB from the address associated with the exploit. The assets were sent to Tornado Cash, a cryptocurrency mixer that combines deposits from multiple addresses, making it more difficult to follow individual funds on the blockchain.

The transfers took place on Friday, after the foundation proposed a recovery arrangement the previous Thursday. Cysic said the attacker could keep a 10% bounty if 275.872 ETH—valued at approximately $665,000 at the time—was returned. That amount represented about 90% of the Ether proceeds identified by the foundation.

The attacker’s Ethereum wallet contained only about $45 in ETH at press time, according to Arkham data cited in the report. Cointelegraph said it contacted the Cysic Foundation about efforts to recover the funds but had not received a response by publication.

What happened to the Cysic bridge

The incident began on Saturday, when the attacker exploited a vulnerability in Cysic’s bridge. A bridge is a blockchain protocol used to transfer assets or related representations between networks. In this case, the exploit enabled the minting of 10 million Cysic, or CYS, tokens on BNB Smart Chain.

Cysic suspended the bridge after detecting the activity and blacklisted the recipient address. Those actions froze approximately 2.8 million of the newly minted tokens. The foundation said Cysic’s mainnet and assets already held in users’ wallets were not affected.

The difference between the minted tokens and the amount frozen is central to the recovery effort: while millions of newly created CYS tokens were blocked, the attacker also converted or moved part of the proceeds into other cryptocurrencies. The 10% bounty was intended to encourage the return of those identified assets.

Current market picture

Moneyiar market data at 08:08–08:09 on October 24, 2026, showed the following:

  • Ethereum: $2,369.763167491, down 1.25% over 24 hours and 2.51% over seven days.
  • BNB: $734.3746185459, down 1.34% over 24 hours but up 1.81% over seven days.
  • Plasma (XPL): $0.074578621, down 4.57% over 24 hours and 9.1% over seven days.
  • Ethereum Name Service (ENS): $5.3696224086, down 4.04% over 24 hours and 4.91% over seven days.

The reported transfers involved ETH and BNB, while the original exploit created CYS tokens on BNB Smart Chain. The movement of assets into a mixer adds a tracing challenge to an already complex recovery process, while the bridge suspension and address blacklist represent Cysic’s immediate containment measures.
