Fireblocks has rejected a report that Visa is in advanced negotiations to acquire the crypto infrastructure company for approximately $2.5 billion, saying the reported deal is not currently true. Visa declined to comment on what it described as rumors and speculation.
Fireblocks challenges acquisition report
According to Cointelegraph, Fireblocks said it was aware of reports about a possible acquisition by Visa but disputed the account. A company spokesperson said the reported transaction was “news to us” and “not true at present time.”
The denial followed a report by Axios that Visa was in advanced discussions to buy Fireblocks. Axios cited multiple sources and put the potential purchase price at about $2.5 billion. Neither source material nor the companies confirmed that a deal had been agreed or that negotiations would result in a transaction.
Visa, one of the world’s major payments companies, did not provide a substantive response. A spokesperson told Cointelegraph that Visa does not comment on “rumors or speculation.”
A major gap from Fireblocks’ last disclosed valuation
The reported price would be substantially below Fireblocks’ most recently disclosed valuation. Fireblocks announced a valuation of more than $8 billion after raising $550 million in a Series E funding round in January 2022.
The $8 billion valuation was still listed by data provider Traxcn as recently as Dec. 11, 2025. On the figures reported by Axios, a $2.5 billion acquisition would therefore be less than one-third of that last publicly disclosed valuation. However, the source material does not provide an explanation for the difference, and Fireblocks has disputed the acquisition report itself.
Fireblocks is a provider of cryptocurrency custody and infrastructure. In general, crypto custody services help safeguard digital assets, while infrastructure providers supply technology used by companies operating in digital-asset markets. Visa’s interest, as reported by Axios but denied by Fireblocks, would have linked that infrastructure business with a large established payments network.
