GTA 6’s Dacity Coin mention fuels unofficial Solana meme-token speculation

The mention of a fictional cryptocurrency in Grand Theft Auto 6 has sparked a real-world trading frenzy, even though Rockstar Games has no connection to the token being bought and sold.

The latest GTA 6 trailer briefly shows the name “Dacity Coin,” prompting meme-coin traders to speculate about how the fictional asset will function in the game. An unofficial token with the same name was created on Solana and rose to a peak market capitalization of $15 million as traders bet that the coin could have a prominent role in the upcoming title.

According to Decrypt, the market interest is based almost entirely on guesses about the game’s content. Some traders expect Dacity Coin to appear in a handful of side missions. Others believe players may be able to trade it as an in-game asset, potentially giving the fictional coin a role similar to the stock-market mechanics in the previous Grand Theft Auto game.

What the trailer and leak show

Dacity Coin appears to be linked to a fictional in-game company called AudaCity. The company and the coin reportedly appear in both leaked gameplay material and the official launch trailer.

The trailer includes a wing walker setting off a smoke bomb on top of an aircraft covered in Dacity Coin branding. That scene has led traders to speculate that the game could include several missions built around promoting the coin through stunts and publicity.

A leaked mission appears to support that theory, although the material is not an official explanation of the game’s full design. In the reported sequence, GTA 6 protagonist Lucia is asked to perform a parachuting stunt to attract investment in Dacity Coin. A message shown in connection with the mission tells her to “give them a show” so they will buy the coin before understanding what it is.

The idea has particular appeal to cryptocurrency traders because it mirrors the behavior associated with real-world meme coins, where attention and promotion can rapidly influence market interest. One pseudonymous trader, Nicstho, told Decrypt that the likely scenario was a series of missions in which Lucia promotes Dacity Coin to earn money.

Traders split over the coin’s role

The more cautious interpretation is that Dacity Coin will be a plot device or part of several optional missions. Under that view, players could be asked to create publicity for the fictional asset without being able to use it widely elsewhere in the game.

A more bullish theory is that Dacity Coin could become a tradable in-game currency available in both single-player and multiplayer modes. Nicstho described that possibility as significant for the unofficial Solana token, although the real-world asset has no official relationship with Rockstar or GTA 6.

Trader Corey Ape told Decrypt that players might be able to trade Dacity Coin in a way comparable to the stock market in Grand Theft Auto V. In that game’s single-player story, players could buy and sell stocks, and the feature became the subject of investment guides aimed at helping players generate in-game wealth. Corey Ape said the comparison was an instinct rather than confirmed information, but argued that Rockstar had already established a precedent for tradable financial assets within the series.

That distinction is important: a fictional coin inside a video game and an unofficial cryptocurrency on a public blockchain are separate assets. The Solana token was created by traders rather than Rockstar, and there is no indication in the source material that holders of the token will receive any access, rights or benefits in GTA 6.

Speculation drives the unofficial token

Despite the lack of an official connection, traders have continued buying the real-world Dacity token in anticipation of the game’s November release. One trader was reported by Pump.fun to have unrealized profits of $285,000 after investing $20,000. Those gains had not been locked in, however, and the token could fall sharply, reflecting the volatility associated with meme coins.

The trading activity therefore represents a bet on the prominence of a fictional game feature rather than confirmation of a partnership or planned integration. Traders are effectively wagering that a more important role for Dacity Coin in GTA 6 would increase attention to the unofficial Solana token.

Rockstar did not respond to Decrypt’s request for comment. Until the game provides more information, the extent of Dacity Coin’s role remains uncertain, ranging from a few scripted missions to a potentially tradable in-game asset.
