Kalshi in advanced talks to raise $1 billion at $40 billion valuation

Kalshi is reportedly in advanced negotiations to raise about $1 billion in fresh funding at a valuation of $40 billion, a potential increase of roughly 82% from the prediction-market platform’s most recent valuation.

According to Reuters reporting cited by Cointelegraph, existing investor Sequoia Capital and Wellington Management are discussing leading the proposed round. Tiger Global Management and Dragoneer Investment Group could also participate, although the talks have not been presented as final and the eventual terms may change.

A sharp rise in valuation

The reported financing would come only four months after Kalshi completed a $1 billion Series F round in May. That transaction valued the company at $22 billion, meaning the proposed $40 billion valuation would represent an increase of about $18 billion in a short period.

Kalshi’s May valuation had already marked a major step up for the company. It was twice the valuation reported for December, according to the source material. The latest discussions therefore point to another substantial repricing of the business if the new round is completed at the level under consideration.

Reports that Kalshi was seeking funding at a $40 billion valuation first emerged in June. The Financial Times reported on June 24 that the company was in talks to raise capital at that valuation and might complete the transaction as soon as the third quarter of the year.

What the proposed round would mean

A funding round gives a private company capital from investors in exchange for an ownership stake. The valuation indicates the price investors are assigning to the business in that transaction. In Kalshi’s case, the reported proposal would place the platform’s value well above the level established by its May Series F financing.

Kalshi operates in the prediction-market sector, where users trade contracts linked to the outcomes of future events. The company’s fundraising discussions involve several prominent investment firms, but the reports do not confirm that any investor has committed to the round.

Kalshi, Sequoia Capital, Wellington Management, Tiger Global Management and Dragoneer Investment Group did not immediately respond to Cointelegraph’s requests for comment, according to the report. The status of the negotiations and the final size and valuation of any financing remain subject to change.
