Luxor Raises $16 Million to Expand AI Compute Trading and Hardware Brokerage

Luxor Technology has raised $16 million in a strategic round led by CMT Digital to expand its AI hardware brokerage, agentic cloud platform and compute-trading business, extending infrastructure and market expertise developed through bitcoin mining into artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.

Luxor Technology Corporation, a Seattle-based bitcoin mining company that has expanded into artificial intelligence infrastructure, has raised $16 million in a strategic investment round led by CMT Digital.

The financing is intended to help Luxor grow its AI hardware brokerage, cloud-computing platform and trading operations as demand for computing capacity brings bitcoin-mining infrastructure, energy resources and financial markets closer together.

CMT Digital, the venture capital arm of Chicago-based CMT Group, led the round. Canaan, MicroBT, Halo, Steelhead and angel investors also took part. The financing includes both primary and secondary capital.

Luxor said the participating investors are operating partners in the computing supply chain it serves, with interests spanning hardware, capital and power. The company plans to use the proceeds to expand its agentic cloud platform, provide working capital for AI hardware transactions, develop compute-derivatives trading and market-making activities, and add engineering and go-to-market employees.

From bitcoin mining to AI infrastructure

The fundraising follows Luxor’s launch of Luxor AI in September. The new business segment applies capabilities developed through bitcoin mining—including energy management, hardware procurement, software, computing markets and data—to artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.

The shift reflects the overlap between the infrastructure used for digital-asset mining and the requirements of AI computing. Both activities depend on access to electricity, specialized equipment, data-center capacity and financing, although the hardware and workloads involved can differ.

Luxor’s chief executive and co-founder, Nick Hansen, described the company’s strategy as a convergence of computing markets. The company says miners, power sites and capital that supported digital-asset mining can also participate in AI-related infrastructure.

The firm’s earlier work includes Commander, a fleet-management platform for bitcoin-mining operators. The system is designed to provide real-time monitoring, remote machine controls and tools for managing energy use and profitability as hashrate and electricity-market conditions change.

Hardware, cloud and compute markets

Luxor said its hardware brokerage desk has traded $1 billion worth of application-specific integrated circuit, or ASIC, hardware for bitcoin mining. Its energy business services more than 75 megawatts of load across the ERCOT and SPP electricity markets. Its agentic cloud platform had processed 1.8 million workloads year to date as of September.

The company’s AI hardware desk sources GPUs and AI servers through a tiered network of partners. Luxor said that, as a value-added reseller to major original-equipment manufacturers, it can access abandoned orders, special allocations and used-equipment markets. That sourcing model is aimed at navigating tighter AI hardware supply chains.

Luxor is also developing financial products linked to computing capacity. Its over-the-counter desk offers cash-settled options, forwards and backstops based on compute-rental indexes. These instruments are designed to provide ways for market participants to manage exposure to the cost or availability of computing capacity without necessarily taking physical delivery of equipment.

CMT Digital partner Sam Hallene said Luxor combines an understanding of energy and infrastructure with financial tools for managing risk. He said the company had developed that expertise over eight years in digital assets and was applying it to AI computing.

Strategic backing and industry context

Canaan chief executive Nangeng Zhang said Canaan is pursuing long-term power resources in North America as part of a compute-and-energy strategy. He described the investment in Luxor as aligned with those objectives and called Luxor an important partner in bitcoin mining and the energy industry.

CMT Digital’s participation gives Luxor a backer with experience in electronic trading and market structure, while the involvement of hardware and infrastructure companies connects the financing to several parts of the computing supply chain. Luxor said the new capital would allow it to scale both its physical hardware operations and its marketplace activities.

The move comes as bitcoin-mining companies seek additional uses for their infrastructure. CoinShares data cited in the source material showed that public bitcoin miners had signed more than $70 billion in AI and high-performance-computing contracts by the end of March. That figure illustrates the scale of the industry’s interest in moving beyond mining, although it does not represent Luxor’s own contracts.
