Luxor Technology has raised $16 million in a strategic funding round led by CMT Digital, as the company expands from Bitcoin-mining infrastructure into artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. The company said the capital will support its cloud platform, hardware operations, compute-market activities and hiring.
Funding to expand AI and compute operations
The round included participation from Canaan, MicroBT, Halo, Steelhead and additional angel investors, according to an announcement reported by Cointelegraph. Luxor described itself as a full-stack compute company, with operations spanning software, hardware sourcing and compute trading services.
Luxor plans to use the new funding to scale its agentic cloud platform, grow its AI hardware business, expand its compute derivatives trading capabilities and add staff. It also intends to increase GPU sourcing services as global chip supply chains become more difficult to navigate.
GPUs, or graphics processing units, are specialized chips widely used for demanding computing workloads, including artificial intelligence. By sourcing GPUs and AI servers, Luxor is extending capabilities it developed for Bitcoin miners into a broader market for computing capacity.
From Bitcoin-mining services to AI infrastructure
Luxor has traditionally served Bitcoin miners, including Canaan and TeraWulf. Its business has since expanded to include hardware services for the AI-computing market, where access to chips, servers and suitable computing capacity is central to building and operating AI systems.
The company launched Luxor AI in September. The new business segment brings its hardware, software and compute-trading stack—originally built for Bitcoin-mining customers—to AI and high-performance computing users.
Luxor co-founder and CEO Nick Hansen said the overlap between the two industries is increasing because miners, power sites and capital used for digital-asset mining can also support AI workloads. The company said the latest financing is intended to help it capitalize on that convergence through computing markets.
The funding follows a $5 million Series A round that Luxor raised in June 2021. That earlier round was led by NYDIG, an institutional Bitcoin technology and financial services firm, and was intended to support the expansion of Luxor’s North American Bitcoin-mining services. Earlier seed investors included Celsius, Valour and Bitnomial, according to startup data tracker Tracxn.
