An OKX joint venture with Intercontinental Exchange, the parent of the New York Stock Exchange, has notified the US Securities and Exchange Commission that it intends to launch a platform for trading tokenized shares in more than 60 US-listed companies.
The proposed venue, OKXICE LLC, would operate as a tokenized securities venue under a recently introduced SEC innovation exemption. According to Cointelegraph, the filing outlines a platform designed to bring selected US equities onto blockchain-based infrastructure while keeping trading within the framework established by the regulator.
63 proposed stock symbols
A public notice dated Oct. 4 lists 63 proposed stock symbols. The names include major US-listed companies such as Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft and Tesla. The proposed list also contains businesses closely linked to the digital-asset industry, including Strategy, Coinbase, Circle and Bitgo.
Andrew Cuomo, co-chair of OKXICE, said the development of digital assets was already changing the financial system and described tokenized securities as part of the next stage of that change.
Tokenized stocks are digital representations of securities that can be traded using blockchain infrastructure. In this case, the proposed platform would not offer an unrestricted crypto market: it would be a permissioned venue, meaning access and trading would be subject to defined controls.
How the proposed venue would work
OKXICE plans to run the platform continuously, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It would use permissioned Uniswap v4 liquidity pools deployed on XLayer. Each tokenized stock would be paired with one of three dollar-linked digital assets: USDC, Global Dollar, or USDT.
Uniswap liquidity pools are automated systems that facilitate trading between paired assets. The proposed structure would therefore use automated market-making technology rather than a conventional order book, while restricting participation under the venue’s permissioned model.
OKX and Intercontinental Exchange created the joint venture in June. The companies own the venture equally and formed it to develop infrastructure for tokenized financial products.
SEC exemption opens a route for onchain stock trading
The filing follows an SEC decision in September to provide a temporary exemption for limited trading of tokenized US stocks on certain onchain venues. Under the innovation exemption, tokenized securities venues can offer permissioned trading in National Market System stocks through automated market makers and liquidity pools.
The proposed OKXICE platform is intended to operate within that temporary framework. The filing does not establish that all 63 proposed stocks are already available for trading; it identifies the symbols included in the public notice for the planned venue.
