PancakeSwap’s total value locked rose to $2.4 billion as the decentralized exchange opened a governance vote on a proposal that would give liquidity providers a larger share of trading fees and sharply reduce new CAKE token emissions. The changes could begin in November if approved.
Liquidity grows ahead of “The Flip” vote
According to Cointelegraph, PancakeSwap’s TVL increased from about $2.02 billion on Oct. 14 to $2.4 billion on Wednesday, a rise of nearly 19% in one week. TVL measures the value of assets deposited in a decentralized-finance protocol and is commonly used as an indicator of the capital committed to its services.
The largest increase came from PancakeSwap’s V3 liquidity pools. Their TVL more than doubled during the period, climbing from approximately $336 million to about $739 million. Liquidity pools allow users to deposit crypto assets that support trading on a decentralized exchange. In return, liquidity providers receive a portion of transaction fees, while also facing the risks associated with providing liquidity.
The growth coincided with the launch of a governance vote for “The Flip,” a proposed overhaul of PancakeSwap’s fee and token-emission model. Voting began on Oct. 21 and is scheduled to close on Oct. 24.
Under the proposal, liquidity providers in V3 and Infinity pools would receive 88% of swap fees, compared with 66% to 68% on most pools today. The plan would also reduce daily CAKE emissions by about 69%, from 22,500 tokens to 7,000. CAKE is PancakeSwap’s native token, and emissions refer to the new tokens distributed by the protocol over time.
If the proposal passes, implementation is expected to start in November.
PancakeSwap dominates BNB Chain exchange activity
PancakeSwap remains the leading decentralized exchange on BNB Chain. Over the seven days covered by the source data, it processed approximately $4.67 billion in trading volume on the network, representing about 71% of BNB Chain’s total decentralized-exchange volume.
BNB Chain accounted for roughly $2.33 billion of PancakeSwap’s $2.40 billion in TVL, showing how concentrated the protocol’s liquidity remains on that network. Across BNB Chain’s wider decentralized-finance ecosystem, TVL rose about 8.3% over the same seven-day period to $5.84 billion. Decentralized-exchange volume increased 40.2% to $6.54 billion, while the network’s stablecoin market capitalization slipped 0.6% to $13.1 billion.
Tokenized stocks add to the ecosystem’s activity
BNB Chain’s growth also includes activity linked to tokenized equities. PancakeSwap began supporting Binance’s bStocks in June, enabling users to trade tokenized US stocks onchain.
Binance said on Oct. 15 that bStocks had exceeded $1 billion in assets under management around four months after launch. It also reported cumulative trading volume above $40 billion and said 11.2% of bStocks’ value was deployed in decentralized finance in early October.
