Robinhood to Add Ripple’s RLUSD Stablecoin Despite Backing Rival USDG

Robinhood to Add Ripple’s RLUSD Stablecoin Despite Backing Rival USDG

Robinhood plans to make Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin available to retail customers through its app before the end of 2026, opening a potential distribution channel to the brokerage’s 28.6 million funded customers. The agreement also expands the relationship between the companies into institutional settlements, treasury management and derivatives trading.

The move places Robinhood in an unusual position within the stablecoin market. The brokerage helped launch the Global Dollar Network in 2024, a consortium created to promote Paxos-issued USDG, a competing dollar-backed token. Robinhood has not announced any change to that relationship, leaving open questions about whether RLUSD and USDG will appear together in the company’s products.

According to CoinDesk, Robinhood and Ripple announced the partnership on Tuesday. RLUSD is already available on Robinhood Chain and on Bitstamp, the cryptocurrency exchange Robinhood acquired for $200 million in June. The planned app launch would make Ripple’s token accessible through Robinhood’s main retail platform for the first time.

The number of customers who will be eligible to use RLUSD has not been disclosed. Robinhood reported 28.6 million funded customers at the end of August, but the companies have not said whether all of those customers will have access to the stablecoin once it is introduced.

A second stablecoin relationship

The partnership gives Robinhood an additional stablecoin option while it remains connected to the network supporting USDG. The Global Dollar Network brings together companies involved in distributing USDG and allows members to share in revenue generated by the token. That structure gives participants a financial incentive to promote USDG, but the Robinhood-Ripple agreement indicates that membership does not prevent them from offering competing stablecoins.

Other founding members of the network include Kraken, Galaxy Digital, Anchorage Digital and Bullish, CoinDesk’s parent company. Arbitrum joined the network earlier this month.

Robinhood has already assigned USDG a specific role in its own services. In July, the consortium said USDG would become the default lending asset for Robinhood Earn, the company’s onchain lending product. Robinhood has not said whether RLUSD will receive a similar role, be offered alongside USDG in the same products or be promoted differently to customers.

That distinction matters because stablecoins are designed to maintain a value close to a fiat currency, usually the U.S. dollar, while serving as digital assets for transfers, trading and other blockchain-based activity. The two tokens may therefore compete for use within Robinhood’s customer-facing products even as the company maintains commercial relationships with both issuers and networks.

Institutional uses and planned trading expansion

The agreement extends beyond retail access. Bitstamp is expected to use RLUSD on the XRP Ledger for settlement, adding the token to the infrastructure supporting Robinhood’s institutional operations. Robinhood also plans to adopt Ripple’s treasury software for cash management, payments and forecasting.

Ripple Prime already provides Bitstamp with lending and margin financing across approximately 20 digital assets. The companies said they also plan to introduce perpetual futures trading later this year. Perpetual futures are derivative contracts that do not have a fixed expiry date, although the source material does not specify which assets or products will be covered by the planned expansion.

Ripple President Monica Long said the partnership includes bringing RLUSD to retail and institutional markets while helping Robinhood manage treasury operations. The statement characterized the arrangement as a response to institutional demand for integrated services that cover both customer products and internal financial operations.

Ripple launched RLUSD in December 2024. The company’s press release said the stablecoin had grown to a market capitalization of more than $2.5 billion. Market capitalization measures the value of tokens in circulation based on their market price, rather than indicating the amount of customer access Robinhood will provide.

Moneyiar market picture

Moneyiar market data at the stated times showed the following prices and performance:

  • XRP: $1.2991099051, up 0.56% over 24 hours and 0.09% over seven days, as of October 25, 2026, at 22:38 +03:30.
  • USDG: $0.9996393957, down 0.01% over 24 hours and 0.01% over seven days, as of October 25, 2026, at 22:38 +03:30.
  • RLUSD: $0.9999277618, down 0.01% over 24 hours and 0.01% over seven days, as of October 25, 2026, at 22:39 +03:30.
  • STABLE: $0.0265498473, down 2.51% over 24 hours and up 10.84% over seven days, as of October 25, 2026, at 22:39 +03:30.

The market figures show both USDG and RLUSD trading close to $1 at those times, consistent with their role as dollar-linked tokens. They do not establish how Robinhood will divide product roles between the two stablecoins.

The announcement came as Ripple also disclosed other institutional developments. The company said it had received final approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to proceed with Ripple National Trust Bank and had expanded its partnership with BNY. That broader relationship is intended to support institutional digital-asset custody infrastructure and explore blockchain applications including tokenized trade.
