Robinhood is widening its range of trading tools and hours in an effort to attract more active investors. The brokerage announced AI agents, leveraged crypto perpetual futures, weekend trading for selected U.S. stocks and exchange-traded funds, longer options hours, increased intraday margin and new contracts tied to corporate earnings.
The announcements were made Tuesday at Robinhood’s HOOD Summit in Houston, according to CoinDesk. Together, they point to a strategy of bringing more crypto-style features into a single brokerage account, allowing customers to move between stocks, options, crypto, prediction markets and derivatives without leaving the platform.
Weekend access and longer trading hours
Robinhood plans to offer trading in a selection of U.S. stocks and ETFs on Saturdays and Sundays through Bruce ATS, an alternative trading system. The service is intended to close the remaining weekend gap in Robinhood’s 24 Hour Market, which launched in 2023 but has continued to pause on weekends.
The move comes as brokerages respond to investors accustomed to crypto markets, where trading takes place around the clock throughout the year. Traditional U.S. stock markets still operate mainly during weekday sessions, although brokerages and alternative trading systems have extended access beyond the usual 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. schedule.
The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq have also filed proposals to expand their trading hours. Robinhood says its broader approach is to offer both more assets and more time in which customers can trade them.
The company is also extending options trading hours and adding more intraday margin. In addition, it plans to offer contracts through Cboe that allow customers to trade on whether a company reaches specific earnings-related measures, including revenue and earnings per share. For Apple, one available measure will be iPhone sales.
AI agents with access to trading accounts
Robinhood Agents will allow customers to create an AI agent within the Robinhood app and choose a model from OpenAI or Anthropic. Customers can give the agent access to a separate trading account, where it can research markets, create watchlists and trade stocks, options and crypto.
A planned feature called Loops will allow users to issue standing instructions. Instead of waiting for a new prompt, an agent could monitor markets and carry out a strategy when specified conditions are met.
Robinhood said more than 150,000 agentic accounts have already been created since it opened its trading infrastructure to external AI agents earlier this year. Those accounts have generated millions of calls to the company’s tools each day, according to Robinhood.
At launch, the platform will generally require customers to approve each trade proposed by an agent. Users will be able to disable that safeguard. Agents will not be permitted to borrow on margin initially, and they will be restricted to funds held in their dedicated account.
The company acknowledges that automated systems can make mistakes. Robinhood’s product team described the agent as a research and trading tool rather than a replacement for user oversight. Customers will also be able to pay for external information that agents can use, including options data from Unusual Whales, market data from Nasdaq, crypto data from Token Terminal and government-activity data from Quiver Quantitative.
Leveraged crypto derivatives
Robinhood is bringing crypto perpetual futures to eligible U.S. customers through Robinhood Derivatives and Bitstamp, beginning with bitcoin and ether. The contracts will offer leverage of up to 10 times. Other supported crypto assets will initially have leverage of up to three times.
Perpetual futures, often called perps, allow traders to take leveraged long or short positions without the fixed expiration date associated with conventional futures contracts. They have been widely used on offshore crypto exchanges, while U.S. retail access has been more limited by regulatory constraints.
Leverage means that a relatively small move against a position can produce a much larger loss relative to the trader’s initial amount and can trigger liquidation. Robinhood said it selected lower limits for more volatile, less-established tokens and may change those limits over time.
The new products reflect Robinhood’s attempt to compete for customers who want frequent access, a wider selection of markets and more complex trading instruments. The company’s product leadership said the goal is not to prioritize one asset class over another, but to let active traders shift between them within one account.
