Robinhood plans to add Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin to its app later in 2026 and use the XRP Ledger for institutional settlement through Bitstamp. The agreement also covers Ripple Treasury tools, but launch jurisdictions, service dates and transaction volumes remain undisclosed.

Robinhood to Add Ripple’s RLUSD and Use XRP Ledger for Institutional Settlement

Robinhood is preparing to bring Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin to its app later in 2026 as part of a broader agreement that also covers institutional settlement on the XRP Ledger and the use of Ripple Treasury for the brokerage’s internal financial operations.

According to CryptoSlate, the agreement announced on October 27 links Robinhood’s large retail platform with Ripple’s digital-asset infrastructure. The consumer rollout would give eligible Robinhood customers another way to access RLUSD, a dollar-linked stablecoin, although the companies have not disclosed a launch date or identified the countries and US states where the service will be available.

The missing eligibility details are significant for customers. A token’s availability can differ between jurisdictions, and the announcement does not yet specify whether Robinhood users will be able to buy, sell, hold or transfer RLUSD through the app. Those functions, along with supported locations, are expected to become clearer in a future launch notice.

A broader relationship with Bitstamp

The agreement builds on an existing connection involving Bitstamp, the cryptocurrency exchange owned by Robinhood. Bitstamp announced RLUSD trading on January 8, 2025, with the token initially supported on the Ethereum network.

At that time, the exchange listed trading pairs involving the euro, US dollar, USDT, Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP. Its notice also said the listing excluded the European Union and warned that availability of individual pairs could vary by jurisdiction.

That earlier Bitstamp listing and the planned Robinhood app rollout are separate developments. The historical exchange access does not establish where RLUSD will be available to Robinhood app users, and the announcement of the new agreement does not provide an answer on the future app’s geographic eligibility.

Bitstamp’s notice described RLUSD as backed by cash and cash equivalents and said the stablecoin was supported on Ethereum and the XRP Ledger. However, the trading service described in that January 2025 notice used Ethereum. The new agreement adds a distinct planned use for the XRP Ledger: settlement between financial institutions operating through Bitstamp’s institutional business.

XRP Ledger settlement and Ripple Treasury

Under the agreement, Robinhood plans to use RLUSD on the XRP Ledger for institutional settlement involving transactions between financial firms across Bitstamp’s institutional business. Settlement in this context refers to completing the transfer of funds between parties after a transaction has been arranged.

The announcement does not include a start date for the institutional service or estimate how much transaction value it could handle. As a result, the agreement sets out an intended use rather than confirming that the settlement system is already operating.

Robinhood also plans to integrate Ripple Treasury into its own financial processes. The stated uses include cash and liquidity management, financial forecasting, payments, risk management and intercompany netting. Intercompany netting is the process of offsetting amounts owed between different parts of the same corporate group, reducing the number of separate payments required.

This internal Treasury integration is separate from the customer-facing RLUSD rollout and from the planned institutional settlement service. Together, the three elements cover retail access, transactions between financial firms and Robinhood’s own corporate cash operations.

The partnership also involves Ripple Prime. The service provides Bitstamp with lending and margin financing across approximately 20 digital assets, while giving Prime clients access to Bitstamp’s spot market. Support for Bitstamp perpetual futures is planned for later in 2026.

What happens next

For Robinhood customers, the next important announcement will need to identify the jurisdictions covered by the app rollout and explain which RLUSD features will be supported. Until then, the agreement confirms an intention to add the stablecoin but not a live customer launch.

For institutions, a start date and evidence of completed settlement activity will indicate when the XRP Ledger component moves from a planned integration into an operating service. The same distinction applies to Ripple Treasury: the agreement describes the intended functions, but does not report that the integration is already in use.

The arrangement therefore extends beyond a new token listing. It combines access to RLUSD for Robinhood’s retail users with planned blockchain-based settlement for Bitstamp’s institutional network and treasury tools for Robinhood’s internal operations. The announcement leaves timing, jurisdictional access and transaction volumes unresolved.
