Samsung is preparing to add cross-border USDC transfers to Samsung Wallet, giving eligible users in the United States a way to send the dollar-pegged cryptocurrency to compatible wallets or arrange local-currency payouts to bank accounts in more than 60 countries.

The service is scheduled to begin in the last week of October. According to CoinDesk, it will be available across 82 million Galaxy devices in the U.S., although Samsung has not said whether or when the feature will be introduced in other markets.

How the Samsung Wallet service will work

Eligible users will be able to send Circle’s USDC either to a compatible crypto wallet abroad or directly to an eligible bank account. In the second case, the recipient can receive funds in local currency without creating or using a crypto wallet.

Samsung said users will fund transfers through integrated on- and off-ramps, which are the services that connect traditional money with digital assets. A registered Galaxy device and biometric authentication will be required to authorize a transfer.

Samsung will not charge users for transfers to compatible external wallets. However, the receiving wallet or exchange may impose its own fee. The source material does not specify the charges, if any, for local-currency bank payouts.

The arrangement is designed to remove several steps that normally accompany a stablecoin transfer. Users will not need to install a separate crypto application or manage private keys themselves, while recipients may be able to receive conventional money in a bank account.

Companies and networks behind the rollout

The service brings together several companies and blockchain networks. Coinbase will hold the stablecoin through Coinbase Prime Vault, while Bastion will provide the regulated stablecoin infrastructure. Solana and Sui will supply underlying blockchain network support.

USDC is a stablecoin, a type of digital token intended to track the value of a traditional currency. In this case, it is designed to maintain a value close to the U.S. dollar. The source describes USDC as the world’s second-largest dollar-pegged token and says it is favored by institutions for its regulatory backing.

The arrangement also gives Samsung a role in distributing digital dollars through a consumer application already used for cards, identification documents and boarding passes. Rather than requiring users to seek out a specialist crypto platform, the feature places the transfer option inside an existing mobile wallet.

Samsung said in August that it planned to add stablecoin savings and payment capabilities to hundreds of millions of Galaxy phones. The U.S. launch represents the company’s first large-scale deployment of those ambitions, according to the report.

Why the launch matters for remittances

Cross-border remittances involve sending money from one country to another, often with the recipient ultimately needing funds in local currency. Stablecoins can be transferred over blockchain networks and then converted into conventional money, creating a payment route that differs from traditional bank-to-bank transfers.

The International Monetary Fund’s annual report said stablecoin use in cross-border transactions has expanded strongly this year, citing low transaction costs. Samsung’s integration could make that type of transfer more accessible by hiding much of the underlying crypto infrastructure from users.

Solana Foundation President Lily Liu said stablecoins could make international money movement faster and easier, while arguing that consumers had previously lacked a straightforward way to use them. Kevin Lehtiniitty, chief executive of Borderless.xyz, similarly said broader adoption was more likely to come through phones people already own than through dedicated crypto applications.

The rollout does not yet represent a global Samsung service. Expansion outside the United States will depend on local regulation, and Samsung has not provided a timetable for additional countries. The company said it may eventually support stablecoin payments online and tap-to-pay transactions on eligible Galaxy phones.
