Securitize shares rise as LG CNS partnership targets South Korea’s tokenized securities market

Securitize shares climbed almost 8% in early trading on Tuesday after the tokenization platform announced a partnership with South Korean technology company LG CNS, as Seoul prepares to introduce new rules for tokenized securities.

The stock reached about $12.60 before giving back some of its advance later in the morning. Securitize began trading on the New York Stock Exchange in July, following its merger with special purpose acquisition company Cantor Equity Partners II, according to Cointelegraph.

Partnership targets financial institutions

Securitize and LG CNS signed a memorandum of understanding to work on tokenized assets and digital-asset infrastructure for South Korean financial institutions. Their areas of focus will include tokenized investment funds, stocks and stablecoins, as well as potential opportunities elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific region.

Tokenization refers to representing ownership or rights to an asset in digital form on blockchain infrastructure. In financial markets, this can include securities such as shares, bonds and funds. Stablecoins are digital assets designed to maintain a relatively stable value, commonly in relation to a traditional currency.

LG CNS also introduced a blockchain infrastructure platform on Tuesday. The platform is intended to help banks and other financial companies support stablecoins and tokenized securities, giving the partnership a technology base as local institutions prepare for regulatory changes.

South Korea prepares new rules

The agreement arrives as South Korea moves toward a formal framework for tokenized securities. The country’s Financial Services Commission proposed rules last week covering the issuance and circulation of tokenized stocks, bonds, funds and other securities. The framework is scheduled to take effect in February 2027.

That timetable could give Securitize an early position in a market where financial institutions are preparing to operate under new requirements. The company’s partnership with LG CNS combines its experience in tokenized assets with a local technology company’s infrastructure capabilities, although the memorandum itself does not establish the scale or commercial value of future projects.

Securitize is already a major participant in the tokenized real-world asset market, which has grown to roughly $40 billion. Early activity was concentrated largely in US Treasurys, private credit and other assets that generate returns. Tokenized equities are now attracting greater attention from exchanges and financial institutions exploring ways to bring traditional stocks onto blockchain networks.

Tokenized stocks gain ground

Data cited in the report put the value of tokenized equities at approximately $3.2 billion, an increase of 10.6% over the previous 30 days. The market has repeatedly reached record levels as financial companies examine the use of blockchain-based ownership and settlement for stocks.

Securitize chief executive Carlos Domingo said at ETHConf in July that even limited adoption of tokenized stocks could have a significant effect on crypto markets. He argued that the development could help lift the overall crypto market to a $5 trillion valuation. That is a company executive’s view, rather than a forecast established by the partnership or South Korea’s proposed rules.
