Security firm SlowMist said malicious versions of the FomoPeek application distributed through Apple’s App Store were linked to approximately $580,000 in cryptocurrency theft. According to the firm, the app used exploits targeting the iOS kernel to break out of the platform’s application sandbox. This allowed it to access sensitive information stored by other applications on affected devices. The disclosure highlights a security risk for cryptocurrency users who rely on mobile devices and download apps through official marketplaces. The report was cited by Cointelegraph on Sept. 23, 2026. The information concerns the FomoPeek app and the alleged theft identified by SlowMist; it does not indicate that the related crypto assets were themselves compromised at the protocol level.
