SoFi Technologies shares rose 14.6% to $16.56 after the financial-services company reported record third-quarter 2026 results, raised its full-year guidance and said the number of crypto products held by members had reached 503,070 by the end of September. Adjusted earnings also exceeded the consensus estimate.
Record results lift the stock
SoFi reported adjusted earnings of $0.18 per share for the quarter, ahead of the $0.17 Zacks Consensus Estimate and up from $0.11 a year earlier. Revenue reached $1.37 billion, compared with $949.63 million in the same quarter last year and 9.08% above consensus.
The company has exceeded consensus earnings expectations in three of the past four quarters and beaten revenue estimates in each of those four periods. It also increased its full-year guidance alongside the quarterly report.
Despite the latest move, SoFi shares had fallen 44.8% during the year before the reported gain, while the S&P 500 had risen 12.1%. Zacks rates the stock Rank #3, or Hold. Its estimates call for next-quarter earnings of $0.20 per share on revenue of $1.32 billion, and full-year earnings of $0.60 per share on revenue of $4.87 billion.
Founded as a student-loan refinancing business, SoFi now operates a broader financial platform that includes credit cards, high-yield savings accounts and IPO investing. The company’s market capitalization is $21.5 billion.
Crypto expands, but contributes little profit
SoFi’s crypto offering returned in the fourth quarter of 2025, when the company became the first nationally chartered bank in the United States to offer retail crypto trading. By the end of the latest quarter, members held 503,070 crypto products.
The business generated $161.6 million in crypto transaction revenue during the quarter, but the associated cost was $160.0 million. That left net crypto transaction revenue of $1.6 million, equivalent to just 0.1% of SoFi’s total net revenue. In the first nine months of 2026, net crypto transaction revenue was $3.7 million from $417.5 million in gross revenue.
SoFi earns fees on members’ buy and sell orders, while most of the gross trading amount is recorded as a cost of revenue. The figures therefore show strong activity but a comparatively small contribution to the company’s overall earnings.
Trading activity and market picture
Crypto trading accelerated in September. Members placed 218,469 trades, up 14% from 191,359 in August. Buy orders increased 18% to 133,937, while sell orders rose 8% to 84,532. Buy volume reached $33.8 million and sell volume totaled $39.1 million. Twenty-five trades were worth at least $100,000.
Bitcoin accounted for 39% of trading volume. New or returning users represented much of September’s activity: 44% of traders made their first trade that month, 20% had traded previously but not in August, and 36% traded in both months.
SoFi said 43% of its crypto members are millennials, defined by the company as people born from 1981 to 1996, and that the median member age is 36. It also became the first national bank to launch stablecoin settlement across Mastercard’s global payments network. Stablecoins are digital assets designed to maintain a stable value, generally against a reference currency.
