Solana is reducing its target slot time to 250 milliseconds, a change that speeds up block production by 17%, according to CoinDesk. The adjustment is designed to provide applications with more current blockchain data and give validators shorter windows to control each slot. However, the network’s transaction capacity will remain unchanged. To achieve the faster timing, Solana will reduce the amount of work permitted within each slot rather than increase the volume of transactions the network can process. The update therefore affects the pace at which slots are produced, not the network’s overall transaction throughput. SOL is the native asset associated with the Solana network.
