Solana Foundation launches open-source DvP settlement system for institutions

The Solana Foundation has launched an open-source settlement program designed to let financial institutions complete delivery-versus-payment transactions in seconds, according to Cointelegraph.

A single transaction for assets and payment

Solana DvP provides an application programming interface for delivery-versus-payment settlement on the Solana blockchain. In a DvP transaction, an asset changes hands only when the corresponding payment is made. The program is designed to transfer both sides of the transaction together, with the entire operation either completing or having no effect.

The foundation said the system is intended to reduce securities settlement times from one or two days to seconds. It is also presented as a reusable alternative to institutions developing their own smart contracts for each settlement arrangement. The open-source design allows financial firms and other market participants to work from a common settlement program rather than creating separate, custom-built systems.

The announcement did not identify a specific securities transaction processed through the new program. Instead, it described Solana DvP as infrastructure for institutional use, focused on the mechanics of exchanging financial assets and payment.

Institutional settlement and risk

Financial markets typically require a period between a trade being agreed and the final exchange of securities and money. A faster, linked settlement process can reduce the time during which one side has delivered its obligation but has not yet received the other side’s payment or asset.

Rhodel D’Souza, JPMorgan’s head of markets digital assets, said the settlement standard represents foundational infrastructure needed by institutional market participants to operate at scale without introducing settlement risk and counterparty exposure. JPMorgan contributed input on institutional settlement practices and requirements while Solana DvP was being developed.

The Solana Foundation’s launch reflects the broader effort to use blockchain infrastructure for financial-market settlement. Blockchain-based systems can record and execute transfers according to predefined rules, while tokenized assets represent conventional financial instruments or claims in digital form. Solana DvP is specifically focused on coordinating delivery and payment in one atomic transaction.

Part of a wider push for faster settlement

The launch follows other initiatives involving banks, financial-technology companies and digital-asset firms. In June 2025, Chainlink, JPMorgan’s Kinexys and Ondo Finance completed a cross-chain DvP pilot involving Ondo’s tokenized US Treasury fund, with payment made through Kinexys.

Separately, Payward, the parent company of Kraken, partnered with Singapore Gulf Bank to support 24/7 US dollar settlement for selected institutional clients in Asia and the Gulf region.

Current Solana market picture
