Strategy sees up to $30 billion in potential Bitcoin financing capacity

Strategy says it could create up to $30 billion in digital credit to fund additional Bitcoin purchases, mainly through preferred-share offerings. The figure is a potential capacity rather than a fundraising target, while the company also prepares for a CFO transition.

Strategy sees up to $30 billion in potential Bitcoin financing capacity

Strategy is considering further Bitcoin purchases funded through preferred-share offerings, with executive chairman Michael Saylor saying the company could create as much as $30 billion in digital credit from its existing balance sheet.

Preferred shares become central to funding plans

Speaking during Strategy’s third-quarter earnings call, Saylor said the company could generate $10 billion, $20 billion or $30 billion in digital credit without raising additional capital through common shares and without relying on a further increase in Bitcoin’s price.

Chief executive Phong Le said issuing this digital credit would be the company’s main route for buying more Bitcoin. The approach marks a greater emphasis on preferred shares, including STRC, instead of relying mainly on convertible debt or sales of common stock.

Le said a monthly STRC offering of between $1 billion and $2 billion could allow Strategy to divide the proceeds between dollar reserves and additional Bitcoin purchases. Preferred shares are a form of company financing that can offer investors specified terms, while giving the issuer capital without issuing more common stock.

The $30 billion figure is a potential financing capacity, not a stated fundraising target. Strategy did not announce that it would raise that amount.

Bitcoin holdings and quarterly results

Strategy’s Bitcoin holdings stood at 848,517 BTC on Oct. 25, after increasing 26% since the beginning of the year. The company is known for holding Bitcoin as a central part of its corporate treasury strategy, meaning changes in the value of those digital assets can have a substantial effect on reported results.

For the third quarter, Strategy reported net income of $19.53 billion. The result was driven largely by a $20.91 billion gain in the value of its digital assets.

The company’s plan matters because its ability to accumulate more Bitcoin depends not only on the cryptocurrency’s market price, but also on how it obtains financing. A move toward preferred-share issuance would provide another funding channel while reducing reliance on common-stock fundraising, according to the executives’ comments reported by Cointelegraph.

Finance leadership transition

Strategy also announced a change in its finance leadership. Chief financial officer Andrew Kang is scheduled to leave the role on Nov. 5 for personal reasons.

Le will oversee the finance function on an interim basis until Reza Virasteh becomes CFO on Jan. 1, 2027. The transition comes as the company evaluates additional financing through preferred shares and continues to manage a large Bitcoin position.
