Strategy has added 1,665 Bitcoin to its corporate holdings after selling common shares, bringing the company’s total Bitcoin balance to 847,666 BTC. The purchase was disclosed in a Sept. 28 filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, according to Cointelegraph.
Purchase and funding
The company bought the Bitcoin over the week from Monday through Sunday at an average price of $85,681 per coin. The total cost was $142.7 million. Strategy said its cumulative investment in Bitcoin now stands at $63.95 billion, including fees and expenses, at an average acquisition price of $75,437 per Bitcoin.
The purchase was financed through the sale of Strategy’s MSTR common shares. The company sold 1.47 million shares and received $246.2 million in net proceeds. Of that amount, $142.7 million went toward the Bitcoin acquisition, while $103.5 million was allocated to repurchasing the company’s STRC preferred stock.
The latest purchase followed a smaller acquisition the previous week, when Strategy bought 950 BTC for $75.7 million. That transaction came after a two-week pause in Bitcoin purchases.
Preferred stock repurchases and cash balances
Strategy repurchased 1.53 million STRC shares for $151.7 million. The company used $103.5 million from the MSTR share-sale proceeds for the repurchase and drew a further $48.1 million from its US dollar cash holdings.
As a result, Strategy’s “USD Cash” balance declined to $1 billion from $1.05 billion over the week. The company also reported a separate US dollar reserve used to cover preferred stock dividends and debt interest. That reserve fell to $5.02 billion from $5.04 billion after the payment of $22.1 million in dividends.
The figures show that Strategy’s latest Bitcoin purchase was part of a broader capital-allocation effort involving both its common shares and preferred stock. Its Bitcoin position expanded while the company continued buying back STRC shares and maintaining cash reserves for financial obligations.
