Strategy Raises Bitcoin Holdings to 848,250 BTC After $21.5 Million Purchase

Strategy added 250 Bitcoin to its corporate treasury last week while spending $192.4 million to repurchase its STRC preferred stock, the company said Monday. The purchases bring its Bitcoin holdings to a record 848,250 BTC and show the firm continuing to allocate capital between digital assets and its preferred-stock program.

According to Decrypt, Strategy bought the Bitcoin between October 5 and October 11 for $21.5 million, including fees. The average cost was $86,194 per coin. Across its entire holdings, the company has spent approximately $64 billion acquiring Bitcoin, at an average price of $75,444 per BTC.

How Strategy funded the transactions

Strategy financed most of the latest Bitcoin purchase by selling about 125,000 shares of its MSTR common stock through its at-the-market offering program. That sale raised $21 million, while the company used another $500,000 in cash to cover the balance. It did not sell any preferred stock during the week.

The company also bought back 1,932,145 shares of STRC, its variable-rate Stretch preferred stock, for $192.4 million. After the transaction, $354.8 million remained available under the authorization for additional STRC repurchases.

The latest activity follows a larger set of transactions disclosed for the previous week, when Strategy bought $29 million in Bitcoin and repurchased $176 million of STRC. The company also reported a $21 billion gain for the third quarter.

Strategy’s dollar reserves

As of October 11, Strategy held $4.88 billion in a U.S. dollar reserve designated for preferred-stock dividends and interest on debt. It also had $640.5 million in cash for broader corporate purposes, including potential Bitcoin purchases. Together, those balances amounted to $5.5 billion in U.S. dollar assets.

The company initially created the dollar reserve with $1.44 billion. It later established the separate cash balance after raising $2 billion through the sale of MSTR common stock.

Strategy has proposed that dividends on its preferred stock accrue on a 365-day basis. It has also said it could sell as much as $1.25 billion in Bitcoin under its digital credit capital framework. In September, Chief Executive Officer Phong Le described selling Bitcoin as the “right trade.”
