Strategy Signals More Bitcoin Buying After September Preferred-Share Repurchases

Strategy chair Michael Saylor has hinted that the company may have added more Bitcoin to its treasury in early October, but investors will need to wait for an official filing to learn whether a purchase was made and how large it was. According to Cointelegraph, Saylor posted on X on Sunday: “There’s always room for more orange,” a reference to Bitcoin’s color and a signal closely watched by the company’s investors.

SEC filing expected after holiday

Strategy’s next disclosure is unlikely to arrive before Tuesday because US federal offices will be closed on Monday for the Columbus Day holiday. The company is expected to report its latest Bitcoin activity through a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

The uncertainty follows a week in which Strategy directed substantially more money toward buying back its preferred stock than toward Bitcoin purchases. Between Sept. 28 and Oct. 4, the company bought 334 BTC for $28.7 million, according to an Oct. 5 Form 8-K. That purchase lifted its total Bitcoin holdings to exactly 848,000 BTC.

During the same period, Strategy repurchased approximately 1.77 million shares of its STRC preferred stock for $176.3 million. The amount spent on those buybacks was more than six times the company’s weekly Bitcoin buying budget, making the allocation a notable shift in its recent capital activity.

Cash reserves could support later purchases

The recent transactions do not necessarily mean Strategy has stopped accumulating Bitcoin. They may instead indicate that the company is retaining cash or strengthening its balance sheet before making further purchases.

Independent analyst Shanaka Anslem Perera said Strategy raised $5.41 billion through new common shares during the third quarter and finished the period with 1,666 more BTC than it held at the end of June. In a monthly Bitcoin and cryptocurrency newsletter, Perera wrote that 9.5% of the capital raised was allocated directly to Bitcoin. Other uses disclosed by the company included a dollar reserve, cash, dividends and repurchases of preferred shares.

Perera said investors should assess more than Bitcoin per share when considering the effect of the financing. Cash is also relevant, while debt and preferred shares have claims ahead of common shareholders. He told Cointelegraph that raising capital does not automatically translate into Bitcoin purchases, although retained cash could finance later buying and a stronger balance sheet could benefit shareholders.

Bitcoin market picture

Moneyiar data at 09:54 on Oct. 13, 2026, show Bitcoin trading at $83,522.23. The cryptocurrency was up 0.15% over the previous 24 hours but down 2.91% over the past seven days.

The next Strategy filing will therefore be important for clarifying whether Saylor’s message referred to a completed early-October purchase, a possible future acquisition, or simply the company’s continuing Bitcoin strategy. Until that disclosure, the size of any new addition to its treasury remains unknown.
