Sui Tunnels Reach 40.6 Million TPS in Live AI-Agent Stress Test

Sui’s programmable offchain tunnels reached a peak of 40,614,180 transactions per second during a live Singapore stress test simulating AI-agent activity. More than 10,000 tunnels were opened, while CertiK reviews the results for an expected report.

Sui Tunnels Reach 40.6 Million TPS in Live AI-Agent Stress Test

Sui says its programmable offchain tunnels processed 40.6 million transactions per second during a live stress test designed to reproduce rapid activity between artificial-intelligence agents. The result was more than six times the performance recorded in a comparable July test.

Record throughput in Singapore

The demonstration took place on Wednesday at Sui Basecamp in Singapore. At its peak, the system reached 40,614,180 transactions per second, compared with approximately 6.1 million TPS in July.

More than 10,000 tunnels were opened on Sui’s mainnet during the exercise. The activity covered payments, games and chat applications, according to Cointelegraph, which reported the test.

The test was intended to examine how Sui could support high-frequency interactions between AI agents. These software-based agents can carry out automated tasks and communicate or transact with one another at speeds far beyond ordinary human activity.

How Sui tunnels work

The transactions were processed offchain rather than being recorded individually on the Sui blockchain as they happened. Sui describes its tunnels as programmable channels that settle transactions to the blockchain when they are closed.

This approach is designed to reduce the need for every high-frequency action to be handled directly onchain. In practical terms, activity can take place within the tunnel first, with the resulting state later settled on the underlying network.

Sui said the architecture is aimed at use cases where transaction volume could be especially high, including interactions among large numbers of AI agents. Mysten Labs, the original contributor to Sui, has positioned the network for a future in which millions of such agents transact daily.

Independent review is pending

Adeniyi Abiodun, Mysten Labs’ co-founder and chief product officer, said the scale of activity required by AI agents differs from the pace of human users. He argued that while people do not need millions of transactions per second, automated agents could generate that level of demand.

CertiK participated as an independent auditor during the demonstration and is reviewing the test data. Sui said a report is expected in the coming days. That review will provide additional scrutiny of the reported peak and the conditions under which it was achieved.

The result is a performance milestone from a controlled live stress test, rather than a claim that ordinary blockchain users are currently generating 40 million transactions per second. The test instead focused on whether Sui’s offchain tunnel design can accommodate bursts of automated activity while retaining a settlement connection to the mainnet.
