Zcash was the standout performer in a broad cryptocurrency recovery on Tuesday, rising 8.5% in 24 hours to $1,215.85 and taking its market value to $20.57 billion. Bitcoin also regained ground above $83,000, while the wider market advanced despite continuing pressure from high oil prices and elevated U.S. Treasury yields.
According to Decrypt, the move followed several days of heavy losses and came as technology stocks recovered from the previous week’s selloff. The rebound was supported by fresh money entering crypto exchange-traded funds, although investors remain focused on inflation risks and the Federal Reserve’s next policy signals.
Zcash outpaces the major tokens
Bitcoin rose 1.57% to $83,195 and Ethereum gained 2.90% to $2,463.35. Almost all large cryptoassets other than stablecoins ended the session higher, but Zcash delivered the strongest advance among the biggest tokens.
The privacy-focused cryptocurrency had fallen about 25% during the previous month. That decline left it vulnerable to a sharp recovery after leveraged traders who had bet on higher prices were forced out of their positions. These forced closures, known as liquidations, can intensify selling when losses reach an exchange’s required limit. Once that selling pressure eased, Zcash had more room to rebound.
The token also has a potential near-term catalyst. Developers are scheduled to decide on the NU7 network upgrade, and traders sometimes position themselves ahead of important network events. Privacy coins have also attracted attention recently: Monero, another privacy-focused cryptocurrency, was up 15.29% over seven days at $609.87.
Zcash’s daily gain does not yet represent a full recovery from its recent weakness. The token was up only 1.17% over seven days in the source-market snapshot, highlighting its relatively high volatility. A high-beta asset tends to move more sharply than the broader market, both during rallies and declines.
Broader market recovers, but macro risks remain
Total cryptocurrency market capitalization increased 1.68% to $2.78 trillion. The CMC20 index, which tracks the 20 largest cryptocurrencies, rose 1.45% to $169.87. The performance suggested that smaller large-cap tokens played a meaningful role in the session rather than the advance being concentrated only in Bitcoin and the biggest assets.
The recovery came after technology shares gained ground. The Nasdaq Composite rose about 1.1% on Monday as chip and artificial-intelligence stocks recovered from the prior week’s losses. Crypto markets have often moved alongside technology stocks, which are generally considered more sensitive to changes in interest rates and investor appetite for risk. Bitcoin also found buyers in the $80,000-to-$81,000 area during the recent decline.
Crypto exchange-traded funds provided another source of demand. Funds tracking Bitcoin and other digital assets recorded net inflows of $526.7 million on Monday, the largest daily inflow in a month. ETFs allow investors to gain exposure to an asset through a conventional brokerage account rather than holding the underlying cryptocurrency directly.
However, the market’s recovery faces important obstacles. The yield on the U.S. 10-year Treasury note remains above 5%. A Treasury yield represents the annual return investors demand for lending money to the U.S. government. When yields rise, relatively safe government bonds can become more competitive with riskier assets such as stocks and cryptocurrencies.
Brent crude oil is trading near $110 a barrel. Expensive oil can add to inflation by increasing the cost of fuel, transportation and goods. Persistent inflation could make it more likely that the Federal Reserve keeps interest rates high or raises them again, potentially pushing bond yields higher and weighing on risk assets.
Current market picture
Moneyiar market data at 11:09 a.m. on October 21, 2026, showed Bitcoin at $83,379.31, up 2.33% over 24 hours and 0.08% over seven days. Zcash stood at $1,279.43, up 11.62% over 24 hours and 3.36% over seven days.
Among the other assets covered by Moneyiar, Monad was priced at $0.022407, with an 8% 24-hour gain and an 8.58% seven-day decline. ONEchain was at $0.102075, up 0.26% over 24 hours but down 11.76% over seven days. The Moneyiar figures were recorded at 11:08 a.m. for ONEchain and 11:09 a.m. for the other listed assets.
Market sentiment remained broadly balanced. The Fear & Greed Index, which ranges from 0 to 100, was at 51, a neutral reading. The CoinMarketCap Altcoin Season Index was 60; readings of 75 or higher indicate altcoin season, while readings of 25 or lower indicate Bitcoin season. The current level therefore does not give either group clear control.
The next major policy event is the Federal Reserve meeting scheduled for October 27 and 28. Traders are expected to focus on whether the central bank signals that further rate increases may be necessary. That guidance, alongside oil prices and Treasury yields, could determine whether the crypto rebound develops into a broader recovery or loses momentum.
