Cysic has suspended its cross-chain bridge after an attacker exploited a processing flaw to mint 10 million CYS on BNB Smart Chain, prompting an investigation into possible unauthorized access to a database supporting the bridge.
What happened
The Cysic Foundation said the minting took place at 12:31:38 UTC on October 17. The foundation later blacklisted the recipient address at 13:47:52 UTC, restricting transfers. About 2.8 million CYS remained at that address when the incident report was issued.
According to Cointelegraph, Cysic’s preliminary findings point to unauthorized access involving infrastructure used to process bridge messages. A cross-chain bridge is designed to facilitate the movement or recognition of tokens between different blockchain networks. In this case, the foundation said the issue was confined to bridge message processing and token minting on BNB Smart Chain.
The foundation cautioned that the number of newly minted tokens does not by itself show the eventual dollar value of any losses. Investigators are still reviewing whether the tokens were transferred or swapped, as well as any resulting losses.
Scope and investigation
Cysic said its mainnet and other operational systems were not affected. It also said the incident did not involve the theft or unauthorized transfer of existing CYS or other assets held in users’ wallets.
The foundation has hired a security firm, although it did not identify the firm. It plans to publish a follow-up report after the current investigation is complete.
There were approximately 160.8 million CYS in circulation, according to CoinMarketCap data cited in the report. CYS is used to coordinate incentives for users, computing providers, governance participants and contributors in the Cysic network, based on the project’s tokenomics documentation.
The incident highlights the distinction between creating new tokens through an unauthorized mint and taking assets already held in user wallets. The final effect on the token and its holders will depend partly on what happened to the minted supply after issuance, which remains under review.
CYS market picture
Moneyiar market data recorded CYS at $0.2011687755 as of September 8, 2026, at 09:04 +03:30. The token was down 5.59% over 24 hours and 59.27% over seven days at that time.
The market figures predate the October 17 incident, so they do not establish how traders may have reacted to the bridge suspension or the unauthorized mint. The foundation has not yet published its final assessment of the event’s financial impact.
