Injective has introduced a perpetual futures market linked to the rental prices of five Nvidia graphics processors, creating a way for traders to take leveraged positions on the cost of computing power used in artificial-intelligence development.
The Super Intelligence Compute Index, or SICI, covers Nvidia’s H100, B200, H200, A100 and RTX 4090 chips. It is based on rental-price information from compute marketplaces, compiled by London-based market data company LO:TECH. According to Cointelegraph, the market allows positions of up to 10 times leverage, with USDC used as margin.
How the GPU index works
SICI is weighted toward the Nvidia H100, which represents 40% of the index. The B200 has a 25% weighting, while the remaining share is assigned to the H200, A100 and RTX 4090. Injective said the index is recalculated every hour using a trailing seven-day average of rental prices.
The perpetual futures contract enables traders to take a view on whether the index will rise or fall without owning the underlying GPUs. Perpetual futures are derivatives designed to remain open without a fixed expiry date, while leverage magnifies both potential gains and losses.
The launch expands Injective’s earlier offering. In August 2025, the blockchain introduced a market based only on Nvidia H100 rental prices. The new index broadens that exposure across five chip models.
Why rental prices matter to AI businesses
Companies building AI models frequently rent access to computing capacity from cloud providers instead of purchasing and operating Nvidia hardware themselves. Prices can change as demand for processing power shifts.
Injective said the futures market could provide a hedging tool for AI developers concerned about rising computing expenses. GPU providers could also use it to protect against a decline in rental revenue. In this context, hedging means using a related financial position to offset the effect of adverse price movements; it does not remove the underlying business risk.
The product arrives as the economics of AI infrastructure face increased scrutiny. Gartner warned in October that more than 80% of specialist AI cloud providers, known as neoclouds, could stop operating independently by 2030 because of difficulty generating sufficient returns on infrastructure investments. Elon Musk separately said more than 200 neocloud providers could face failure or consolidation as lenders become less willing to finance companies reliant on AI data-center revenue.
