Securitize Adds Stellar Blockchain as Institutional Tokenization Expands

Securitize has added the Stellar blockchain to the network of platforms it supports for issuing and managing tokenized real-world assets, expanding a relationship that already includes Ethereum, Solana and Avalanche.

The agreement was announced at Meridian 2026, the Stellar Development Foundation’s annual conference in Lisbon, Portugal, according to CoinDesk. Securitize is a platform that converts assets such as equity and debt into blockchain-based tokens that can be traded in a format similar to cryptocurrencies.

The move comes as financial firms and technology companies increase their focus on tokenization. The process involves representing an asset on a blockchain, potentially allowing instruments such as shares, bonds and commodities to be traded around the clock and with fewer geographic limitations than traditional markets. The announcement does not specify which assets Securitize plans to issue on Stellar or when any such products will become available.

Why Stellar matters to the deal

Securitize described Stellar as a fast and scalable blockchain. It also highlighted features that allow digital assets on the network to be configured for customer identification, asset clawbacks and sanctions compliance.

Know-your-customer, or KYC, procedures are used to verify the identity of customers. Clawback functionality can allow an asset to be recovered or reversed under defined circumstances, while sanctions controls are intended to help restrict activity involving prohibited parties or jurisdictions. These capabilities are particularly relevant to institutions operating under financial and regulatory requirements.

Stellar already has activity involving tokenized financial products and payments. Franklin Templeton operates a tokenized money market fund on the blockchain, while MoneyGram moves money across the network daily. A money market fund generally invests in short-term instruments, and a tokenized version records ownership or transactions using blockchain-based tokens.

Securitize Chief Executive Carlos Domingo said in a statement that Stellar had built the fourth-largest ecosystem for tokenized real-world assets. He linked that position to the network’s institutional demand and its suitability for the sector. The source material did not provide a value for the ecosystem or define the ranking methodology.

Securitize’s institutional footprint

The addition of Stellar gives Securitize another blockchain option alongside Ethereum, Solana and Avalanche. The company is also known for issuing and managing BlackRock’s BUIDL tokenized money-market fund, a role that has placed it among the companies working to connect traditional financial products with blockchain infrastructure.

Securitize was founded in 2017. It went public on the New York Stock Exchange in July and simultaneously placed its own stock on Solana and Avalanche. Its shares reached as high as $13.70 on the first day of trading and closed at $8.16 on Tuesday, according to the source.

The company’s multi-chain approach reflects one of the central features of tokenization: an asset issuer can use different blockchain networks depending on considerations such as transaction infrastructure, compliance functions and the existing user or institutional base. In this case, Securitize is adding Stellar to an existing group rather than replacing the other networks it supports.

The announcement was made at an event organized by the Stellar Development Foundation, the organization associated with the Stellar network. CoinDesk disclosed that Stellar paid for the reporter’s trip to Portugal to cover the conference.
